Is the unicorn the flying type like pegasus or the land mammal like the fairy tale?

    C.O.W. - #119: Unicorn Hunter

I immediately thought of a creature that would resemble a unicorn so it would be tricked into getting close. I was figuring something that could leap up and start clawing at it with front legs that either released blades or spikes.

I then thought of a praying mantis, so my creature is part insect-like. I made the front legs so a clawed foot supported it and then became like a mantis.

The tail is whip-like and has a stinger at the end with small barbs the length of it to wrap around the unicorn's body.

    The "horn" is an antennae.

My main concern is about how thin it is and whether it could support its own weight and how better to portray the front legs.

Hm, maybe there should have been a round with designing unicorns first, and then a round with unicorn hunters after it... I really can't decide on what design the unicorns should have at all...

zeitwolf: I don't think the unicorn is the main focus, maybe a horse with a horn will do. I don't think you would have to have a unicorn in the illustration at all as long as the concept is sound.

That's maybe one funny part of this round, to have a beautiful unicorn beside the actual creature...HUNT THIS FREAKS DOWN!

Of course you don't need to draw an unicorn if you don't feel like it

Aw I don't wanna kill Unicorns but this topic is to sweet to miss.

Too bad we can't do humanoid characters, because smelly, sweaty, suspicious old men are the best unicorn killers...

I did a beastiary last year for a German RPG company called Ulisses-Spiele, and in their game a lot of different animals were unicorns...one we did was this crazy hippopotamus/boar unicorn... there was a six legged evil unicorn and even a unicorn lizard-man-thing that stood upright.

    Hunt them all down!

Here's an initial sketch...The creature latches on to the unicorn and grinds the horn down to feed.

The reason I brought it up is because if I chose the flying unicorn my creature might be different from if i used the non-flying one. I guess its a decision the artists has to decide.

kurios: To me it looks like a running dog (those thin little runts). So be careful how you try and potray the things as it might look like something you did not intend. Why not thick and large front arms and thin and small back legs?

pmihaichuk: Very similar to why my creature is going to attack and kill the unicorn. No worries though, your design looks more insect/reptile while mine is a mammal. Keep going!

Demo: I see a small flaw with your idea. Animals usually stay away from fires that humans make to keep warm, what makes this unicorn any different? The question is 'WHY' would it be attracted by the light?

Lege1: I think your design looks more animal than plant. Because it has plant-like features in order to camo in the woods does not mean its a plant design. This should be allowed for poll in my opinion. But its the activity leaders decision to reject entries so I wont argue. I just hope mine is not too human....

Monster Face: It feels like a reptile evolving into a mammal.

    Great work so far guys!

    -----

Okay here is mine. If its too human then that's fine, it was fun to design.

I am thinking this creature lurks in the dark while all day creatures are sleeping. It sneaks up onto a sleeping unicorn, grabs it with its right arm and this chops off the horn with its left pincer. Bashes the Unicorn to the ground, picks up the horn and starts sucking on it like some bottle of coke.

I was thinking of an asymmetric design to accentuate the grotesqueness of this creature.

got some nice WIPs here, didn't expect to see something like that that rist, but I like the originality of the creature.

here's mine anyway, i don't think I'll even finish this contest, it's not really my kind of topic. But I really don't like unicorns so I'd say that the killer should look fierce and merciless, so:
