    Oh good lord.
The only possible way this can not suck is if they hire me for the Tim Gunn role. (It might still suck, but I wouldn't complain.)

Bravo sure has changed a lot...soon they're going to run out of artsy things to make into competitions. Normally I'd have reservations about any reality TV, but after I got hooked on Project Runway (what artist wouldn't?) I have to see before judging.

It COULD be good or it could be really, really BAD.

It's not obvious in that photo but she totally looks like the singer from "Twisted Sister".

The show might actually be somewhat decent if this were to happen. But like all the art classes I have ever taken, it would be hard to make a pure bred competition with competing styles and the panel's personal view on the artwork.

I really don't see how this show would work to be honest.

You couldn't be a Tim Gunn at all, you have too much of an attitude... you'd be a Simon Cowell if anything

This show screams horrible, they'll choose contestants for their edge, look, and willingness to get into fights

I have a feeling that it will be more geared toward the "fine arts". You know, where they randomly splash paint over canvas? Plus, we are going to get a ton of people coming here, saying "Yes, I'm an artist. I can paint because I watched American Artist."

It is going to be interesting, maybe like Jerry Springer Show and Joy of Painting rolled up?

So... wait... the challenges involve emulation of a crap ton of styles in all kinds of media, which means you need to be a jack of all trades and a master of none? Sounds like Freshman year of college...

    Did that already.
    Two thumbs down.

Why is it that reality television always gets it's slimy, putrid tentacles all over the things I love and hold dear?

The Elves are the ones responsible for this and other reality garbage, right? If we get rid of them will it all go away?

I actually really love Project Runway, largely because it's one of the few things in popular culture that genuinely shows and celebrates the creative process. I bet if I knew more about fashion it would drive me crazy, though.

The only problem I have with it is, a lot of art takes time, dedication, patience and tenacity, and anytime someone puts something like that on TV, it's like they dramatise it so much it becomes stupid and loses its point

ALSO, 10 bux says you're gonna have the "I painted my mother/friend who died of [insert tragedy here] in their memory" episode with the slow piano music

Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die

I think it might be good and I look forward to it. It will be interesting to see if any of the contestants can actually draw and paint or knows his/her anatomy. I can certainly imagine some serious artspeak bullshit being thrown around, which might be fun/maddening to listen to. They'll probably get Julian Schnabel as one of the judges.

Im looking forward to a bunch of really weird emo art people who think they're gods gift to the art world getting yelled at and stressing out trying to make their art in time for a deadline. I think this show will be FANTASTIC!

I really hope this airs while I'm in art school. I somehow think it would be a great thing to kick back and watch after a long day of doing, you know, real art work.

If it's on Bravo expect a lot of flamboyantly homosexual men and a few angry lesbians with radical political views not beholden to reality and a few sets of polar opposites specifically cast because of violently conflicting personalities in order to liven up the show. Then quietly wonder why the 'good' ones keep getting voted off.

They'll be cast with the sole intention of keeping the audience from asking the pivotal question: Why is Sarah Jessica Parker involved in any way with artwork?

I think we should get Sarah Jessica Parker to host the next Last Man Standing. Or at least get Strych9ine to dress up as her.

No. No no no No no no No.

it'll be just like a train wreck:
fun to watch, sad to see.

    or

it could be just like "sex and the city - the movie"
me weeping misrebly of the cruleness of life, while clutching at my friends shirt uttering random curses for bringing me to this hideous hideous thing through a mouth filled with popcorn pointing and shouting "BOOM!" each time it enters the frame. then i throw up. then the whole thing starts all over again.

    seriously. No.

    i like project runway though.

John Humphrys was marvellous in that. He went in because he wanted to learn how to draw a cow for his (Grandson? Nephew?) and gave them hell when they made him:

Pity he got sucked in at the end when they lavished praise and interpretations on said random splashes.

I wouldn't mind having a look at this new show either, but mostly for the train wreck thing.

    ...which is only my opinion.
