    risingfromashes sketchbook... (must start somewhere)

    Hey folks...
    Here's a start...a mass of stuff...paintings...line work to be colored...etc.
I'll try to keep this going with the daily fuzzy dribble from the sketchbook when I have free moments...
    Thanks for stopping by...enjoy
-and if you are in a truly pos. place leave a few words...

    late night

Couldn't sleep and ended up doing a lil late night..plannning and noodling
...I know that the lady with the impractical armor is really loose and more than likely will do a repaint...but it was worthwhile practice...

I enjoy your fascination with eyes :]

This one is really good... I like how subtle it is. Good center line through it, too.

    Unhappy guilty...laziness...nuts and bolts

Ian: Thanks man...I remember having alot of fun creating that...
for the most part i work kinda on the slow side...that right there is an example of me being patient...That's a bit old as I haven't been doing much in that vein in quite a while...it was done around the same time as the other line drawings of the ladies with the mech-ish hands/attachments etc. but instead of straight line work I used the shavings from my lead holder (I save them up in an old tobacco tin...no buying powdered graphite for me) and gum eraser for most of it (reductive) and little pencil washes...at a time when I was still capable...I would guess about 8-10 hours...

The eye thing has been an ongoing battle ..once I started reading about forms of non verbal communictaion and micro expression it just got worse...

back to basics caught a serious case of you need to work harder...thanks to a noob...newer than I am (take no offense..since that's really a jab at myself) and a few of the mad workaholics here...

-Long and short I am all out of practice...but I'm in for the fight....

    Great stuff.

Very good handle of the figure.

Maybe some studies on 3d space.

    more bits

humanNature: Thanks much....long way to go though...
I stopped by your book and you have some pretty powerful things happening over there....
-and as suggested I cooked up some basic marker 3-d things when I had moments over the weekend..all are 4x6...30 min and under

-an oil thing about an hour...I never paint direct so I figured what the hell...

-and just some tried and true artistic push ups

...If anyone passing through knows of any ways to develop cleaner line work (as in tips/techniques/practice Ideas) with the wacom it would be much appreciated if you would leave that bit of wisdom...

    ...crits comments always welcome...

    ...later days

Love your traditional mediums here, nice smooth rendering with pencil too, although it could use more contrast, and texture variation, but ya you have some awesome concepts
keep it up and stop by sometime

Whoa! You have loads of different styles here and all good.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

    Good handle of 3d Space.

Now apply that To your figure.
And remenber, there is no Line in real life.
So your battle is not with line, but with 3d space. I have never been to a figure drawing session.
My religion Does not allow for me to replicate a form that will entice IE,
Nude figures. I was crushed, all I love to do is draw. One night I was drawing
something stupid like a fork, and I realized that this fork is just a modified
box, Nothing more than a box. Fingers, Feet ,hands, eyes, legs, ears are all just Modified boxes. Focus on 3d space and the figure will be a snap, you wont even need models.

    quick in out

MonkeYoakum: Thanks man...Just pluggin away...Have to go back in on that painting and get the glazes going for color variation/accents/depth...still in the work it out phase...I'll swing by your book when I have extended sit time... later tonight/ morning when I do the daily post from the SB

Human : Yeah I'm all split up on how I work...started of with totally invented work then was brow beaten into life and reference and the need to be correct..so I'm trying to loosen back up and do more figure work from my squash...just breaking out of that comfort zone thing...

    Black Spot : Thanks much....

Ninja: you're right..I'm all kinds of mid range when I work most of the time...for a while I would do the multi range pencil thing then I just settled in with a 2H...I know that alot of folks that I come across have sung the praises of the B...but it just seems so sloppy soft for the way that I draw...but I will keep you comment in mind when I get to drawing tonight...

wanted to throw this up...needed to decompress after I got home..about an hour 20...oil
will be back with the nights work later on

    Just keep at it.
When you work from a reference, your anatomy is pretty damn solid, when your creating it, not quite... so that's just more practise.

Your cartoon styled creations and rendering are both pretty polished.
    Good SB so far.

Hey man, thanks for the comment.

You have a very interesting style nailed down. It seems very clean and polished. Some very cool pieces in here, I especially like that little one eyed tree creature, as well as that montage of faces that seem all pressed against a sheet of glass or something. I can't really critique as I don't exactly see anything wrong, but then again I still have a ways to go before I'm near your level of skill. Good stuff. Keep it up.

    Environment thumbs! Nice!!

No worries about taking your time on rendering. Making sure the piece you do is exactly how you want is the only way to go. Never settle until the deadline forces you to! Eventually you'll work up the quickness and render like a demon, but the best way to learn and to get to that is, as lame as it sounds, slow and steady wins the race.

Good linework in post #13, it merits completion, maybe in the same rendering style as the slug thing.

    eegh...

...Had to deal with the nonsense of life so may not be totally with it but here's what came out as of late...
no ref for figures(tried to keep it at 5-10 min)..woo hoo ...they are ugly
-the fist set of actions are wee things...felt like drawing small...
    -and then I needed animals

    Rand: thanks much will do...
Ian: "the slow blade" true enough...may get back to it in a bit...have just been a lil occupied...but I will get back to it
Jenzi: thanks...makin the rounds and will check out your work shortly...
Untouched: not a problem that's what we're all here for right...
as far as skill level I say the same thing about so many of the folks here..no worries...we all get to where we get to..keep pluggin away...
and that lil blue thing is still unfinished...could never really settle on where I wanted to go next...
Sevans: that's one of the main things that I'm trying to get moving on...the anatomy from the squash is fuzzy at best...need to hit the books again and get a serious tune up...but there was a lil bit of that in this post...

    Thanks all for stopping by...

just some basic skulls...and a lil quick noodling...thinking about more indepth studies with the head and face..maybe the body segment by segment...
from "Richer" and Medical anatomy reference...

thanks for stopping by my SB

you have some really nice linework and rendering throughout, one thing I did notice is that your mechanical designs aren't very technical. Though the designs theoretically would work, they're pretty basic and blocky, try some studies of construction vehicles and get a broader range of design ideas.
