Just a small update as the scanner driver is just back up again.

    Some anatomy studies. Woot!

Really nice so far, I'm liking the anatomical studies, on your undead looking guy, I'd watch the thumbs on his hands, they're bending in a weird way, but other than that, I'm really liking your SB so far, keep it up!

Hey pls, what the title of the thread stands for? Maybe I am off, but isn't it what was wizard saying when casting a spell in the 2000 Shiny entertainment's game Sacrifice?

Big up to everyone for coming through and commenting.
Izra :Thanks for the crit. I was going for that tensed up rigor mortis look, but it did end up lookin kinda wonky instead.
Jabo : Thanks homie, will do.
Re@per, Myrdrim, epicnoses: The title of the sketchbook is the incantation Ash is instructed to say before picking up the Necronomecon in Army of Darkness. Color is coming soon, thanks for the positive reinforcement.

And now... I'm gonna cut you into tiny pieces and sand the skin off (name the movie!)

Hands. I found the muscles bare of skin to be far more creepy than the typical ooh, scary, skeleton hand. Peep the tendons, which pretty much do all the work.

whats this Mr R? two days since your last update?what happened?were you run over dear man?

Tis a fairly new sketchbook so I'm not sure if you already understand this, but you'll find out soon that studying the individual parts of anatomy, like you have shown here, is almost completely different to creating the figure as a whole, the two exercises compliment each other of course, but there is different skills needed in either, try and balance these anatomy studies out with some gesture drawings.

    Nice master study.

I agree as well... color the beetles!!! Keep up with the anatomy, man. It's working out for you. Apply it to some no-ref work and whatever you draw from life and you'll be set!

Thanks everybody for the crits and whatnot.
My apologies for the delay in posting, but I just moved (again).

Anyways, these last two weeks or so have been quite interesting, artistically.
I bought a copy of ZBrush, which is really sweet.
Here's my first try after installing, didn't know what I was doing, but I've since been reading the manual.

    Name: 081508_zbrush_firstTry.jpg
Views: 3003
Size: 35.5 KB

The feeling of doing that (even though it was way more about the process and not about the reward) was so niiiiice that I tried to replicate the sculpting feel in photoshop.

    Name: 081508_digiFace.jpg
Views: 2969
Size: 13.8 KB

My frustration with the blank page pointed me to loosen up, simply and look for a mode of expression.
Quick brush pen - loosening up.

    Name: 081508_simplify.jpg
Views: 2956
Size: 38.0 KB

But still had that problem "what do I draw?"
So I was making myself sit down and just put the pen straight on the paper, no matter how abstract.

    Name: 081508_mountains.jpg
Views: 2927
Size: 48.8 KB

Doing that last one made me realize I enjoy drawing straight with ink, it makes you more careful, more considerate of the image in your head.
I think with this last group of doodles I am coming closer to finding a voice that feels comfortable and inviting to draw with.

    Name: 082508_inkConcepts.jpg
Views: 2928
Size: 75.5 KB

More ink, digi and zbrush to come.
    Thanks again yall.

alright. Been going through the ZBrush manual and such.
Built this skull model using bunches of reference and about 6 hours.
The teeth still bother me, but I think I took it as far as I can at my current skill level.

Wooh shite! Sir, your anatomy studies are absolutely hawt. So is the Michaelangelo. Those beetle studies are really nice too. Very original subject you picked there!
I see you're into 3d aswell... gotta admit your Zbrush skillz are pretty impressive. Nothing to criticize as i myself am a noob hehehe.
One thing that really bothers me - i like your handwriting... 0.e
I think i'll drop by once in a while.

Pijus Thanks. Ink and Zbrush are both crazy fun. ZBrush is about 500 bucks (USD). It's really a great program, and feels natural unlike 3DS Max and Maya, which feel more technical.

InkR Thanks for all the complements homie. I appreciate it. Got some more handwriting in this post for ya

First sheet is a sampling of some of the concepts I'm putting together for a mod level. It's gonna be a jungle type thing, with amphibious bipeds, carnivorous insects and organic tech weaponry. It should hopefully pan out on the interesting side.

    Hi res01ve!

That new update is very nice. I dig your designs, they're fresh and creative. In addition to your handwriting i think i find your technique of "dot shading" (dont know how to describe it more precisely) very interesting. Think i'll try it myself sometime, it gives nice touch to the drawings. Kinda reminds me of Feng Zhou's method of adding dirt and tiny scratches but yours is more hmmmm versatile i think. One request: post more!

    cheers,
    inkR

    Long Overdue!

    Thanks guys!

My roommate's girlfriend moved out and took the cable modem with her, so I'm finally updating - from the coffee house.

Started going to lifedrawing at the university. It's all 30 to 90 second poses. So I did an anatomy crib sheet beforehand.

    Name: 097708_cribsheet.jpg
Views: 2783
Size: 75.9 KB

First session, I focused on getting clean forms in ink.

    Name: 091108_gestures.jpg
Views: 2739
Size: 84.1 KB

Second time I focused on negative space/light forms with a prismacolor marker.

    Name: 092308_shadows.jpg
Views: 2681
Size: 45.9 KB

Third time I tried to loosen up and combine both previously studied areas.

    Name: 092308_etchedLike.jpg
Views: 2567
Size: 56.0 KB

I've also been trying to find a "unique design language" ::

    I think it's coming along. We'll see.
Thanks for droppin in. Hit me up with crits :.

Awesome, ur back! Great ink stuff as always. For 30sec figures its nice and right, I started doing those using posemaniacs.com but 45sec and those are so wrong, not to mention how 30sec would look like :p
I like how u sticked those sticker/sketches in ur moleskine, i want to do that my self
    Waiting for another update. Cheers.
