Is it bad to make posts unrelated to art on your art blog? I want start one but I don't know if it's okay to have both posts about life and posts about art on the same blog.

up to you, as long as you categories them, it'd be easier to browse through the art and others.
I personally have a sketch/art blog by itself and the normal one where I rant is on another site.

The real question is who gives a shit about your life? ^_^
Me. I do. I read lots of blogs that are personal. It's like going through somebody else's sock drawer...with permission!
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).
I think you're analyzing it too much.. nobody reads blogs either way.
Except Stoat. She's weird.
It's true. I am
On the other hand, it's really fun to drop a comment on somebody's little diaryblog they didn't think anyone was reading. They suddenly adopt this, "omigod, did I say all that out loud?" sort of tone.

Haha, that's so true. I did that yesterday. Somebody was whining and I called them on it, so they erased all their posts and wrote "people should keep their thoughts to themselves."
People should also not post their diary on the internet.
Whiny ones, at least.
If you want to use the blog as a diary of your progress, I don't see the problem. If you want to use the blog for self promotion and getting work, well, you can post personal stuff, just be careful to keep a professional tone. Potential employers really shouldn't be able to read that you fight with your girlfriend over dirty underwear on your front page. This is the internet, once something has been posted, even if you edit it, you can never be sure it won't surface anywhere else.
