I started a Studio Journal on my website. it's the place I drop everything i did in the studio or in the sketchbook for the given day. This is an attempt to get myself to draw more often than I have been drawing lately.
Here's an image I did in Photoshop with the wacom. It took about 15 mins to do. If I spend any more time with the wacom I get bored and start longing for traditional media.
Here's the link to the Studio Journal

very atmospheric, its cool.. looks like watercolor...
here's another qiuck photoshop sketch
i started doing this after reading an article in TIME magazine about the looting of asian artifacts from deserted temples for western collectors.
I did this almost a year ago and, like most things, i never finished it. This is a character for my friend's comic called the Vanishing Sun. We started developing it in college but it never went anywhere because Alex quit school and we lost contact with each other. Since then I've been doing some doodles and character designs for it when i feel like it.
Alex, if you stumble on this post get in touch with me.
been slacking a while.
It's getting harder to find time to do some werk fer myself. I started doing some simple still lifes to get back into the groove. i'm trying for speed and color/light. Never really practiced this. especialy in oils.
i did this in an hour. just in time to slack some more (missed Carnivale last night.) i also attached the pics of the still life set up. the colors are a bit off due to the digital camera. i had some problems with the apple. couldnt get the color right. it had more greenish yellow in it. also looking at it juxtaposed with the pics i notice some faults in the actual rendering of the fruit. whoops
have fun ripping me apart - i know i've been doing the same to a bunch of you. feel free to return the favor
Good detail for such a small size. God knows i dont have enough control with a brush to do that- and now you know that too. :p
Don't just practice. Also Practice the right things, the right way.
here's some more concept werk for Vanishing Sun (my friend's comic)
these were dome some time ago back when my fountain pen wasnt broken. i loved that thing eventhough i smacked the shit out of it for not werking. the black and white drawings were done when the pen was running out of ink.
ive been doing still lifes recently and i found the best thing is to look for shapes. if the negative shape around the fruit doesnt look right then the inside shape wont. there isnt only the shape of the object but also of whats not there!!
for example the apple is tilted but in the picture its perfectly straight. if you look again at the still life youll see that its just shapes and you use colour to represent the shapes.
im still learning myself but i hope that helped a bit!
keep it up!
started sketching some model sheets for a comic i've been werking on forever with no results. seeing if photoshop will help me start it back up again. Here's a quicky before i pass out.
havent checked this one in a while.. nice stuff.. i like the ballpoint sketch feel to them.. are you making the faces slightly deformed on purpose(like jon foster does)?
Main Loop - i dont think the deformed faces are intentional. i just put the pen to the paper and hope something good will come out. sometimes there may be a meathod to the madness but usulay i let my subconsious do all the hard werk.
as fo jon foster - that dude rocks. he took me and my friend lana out to lunch at the San Diego comic con. that and he hooked us up with some mad contacts.
Good stuff. I'm still looking for somone to beat my ass in the Thunderdome. You up for it? I think I'd put up a pretty good fight.
Your work is looking great. The first image is my fave it has a nice nateral look to it.
Vader - thanks, seeing all the great werk on this site inspired me to put the wacom to good use.
pvrhye - i'm totaly down for the thunderdome challange. The only thing is i'd like to see your werk so i know what i'm up against. (all i found is the x-girl you colored)
Actually. I already found a challenger. But thanks for the offer. I'm up against Seung Ho. I have one hell of a battle ahead of me. As for the reason I have little work up... I don't own a scanner so getting something scanned is a bit of an ordeal. I tend to work in traditional mediums for any of my more serious work.
haven't been able to draw cause i werked too much last week (70 hours)
this is my atempt to catch up. all are done in photoshop
this one i actualy spent some time on. just over 3 hours. i did about 2 hours of it last nite instead of sleeping.
my main problem with photoshop is that i loose a lot of my spontanaity. gives me something to strive for i guess
Hey looks like your finally gaining hold of some photoshop techiniques and usage. The last two posts' characters have held a sense of personality and the facial realism to make you start to believe it. Keep chugging.. you have quite a mind. keep up the devotion when u can. piece - chudds
Ok then, I'm inspired.....thnx man!
Great stuff by the way, I need draw more aswell, very cool way to keep pushing yo urself....
wow! really interesting style! i especially love the guy on the bike! what did you use to do it???? nice work!
-The Swift- - all the sketches from the post before the one you're asking about are done in photoshop. I still use version 5.5 and i made some customised brushes from random things i scanned.
rhemrev - you're welcome, i figure i owe it to all the tallented people o this forum that inspired me.
the second one has a neat mood and abstractnessish to it. I always have to be a realist and admire some nifty designs such as that. keep goin pal - chudds
Yeah, coming to these boards does help to get inspiration..
Also, after having seen your thread, I've yesterday inmediately added a digital sketchbook to my site, where I'll be posting my doodles on a daily basis..... Like you, I was looking to find a way to push myself to produce something at least everyday, and i think this digital sketchbook feature will do just that for me...
Keep up the good work, maybe even drop by at my site sometime...
