Brian.May: Haha, thanks for pulling that one out. It reminds me of the late-at-night rush job I had to do on it. Glad you enjoyed it all the same.

AndreasM: Thanks for the crit, man. Definitely stuff to keep in mind for the future.

I've finished producing my first video tutorial of my process of doing environments. Check it out if you're interested:

Noah, your digital environments have improved dramatically over the last year (though they were pretty damn good to begin with!). that last piece is awesome! the dudes struggling through the snow, the feeling of cold, the composition, theyre all great! the only thing that struck me as odd, or maybe a little too unbelievably majestic, is that entrance looks like it would be about 1000 feet tall, when you consider those little guys are still a long ways off. but then again, hey maybe thats what you wanted

ryan a: I was shooting for gigantic, but you're right, I may have gone a little over the top there. And thanks for the kind words.

Helltroll: Awesome! Liking Richmond so far? I'll be moving in tomorrow, so we'll definitely have to find a time to hang out. I'll be in touch once I get settled in, but if you see me wandering around campus before then, feel free to yell at me.

Cameli: Thanks! I'll do my best to continue the eye-singeing.

Definitely liking the place. I took an 80 block walk (well, there and back and then some others) yesterday just to find a street that had a nice view of the entire city to draw. And the picture still looked like crap! But it was fun, even if my feet and shoulder ached hardcore afterwards.

    red123456: Thanks!

Helltroll: I think it's a bit of a rite of passage to walk your feet off when you first show up at college. Gotta get the lay of the land and such. But I'm glad you like it! I should have some free time this weekend if you want to hang out and do some painting/drawing.

Some experiments at digital figure painting over at the TAD RVA open figure drawing session:

Saw one of your paintings on a poster at the Communication Arts floor of Franklin Terrace at VCU- something about a public speaking or something? So I take it you're also from Richmond?

Your work has been doing really well lately. Your finished illustrations are really well polished and done to a level consistent with a lot of illustrators and professional level artists, in my opinion. Really great work on figures and your enthusiasm for painting altogether is refreshing. Just keep at!

I'd say the Elf guy didn't work out as well at the end. Something about what his legs are doing and the lengths of his arms are throwing me off.

What are you doing now-a-days? Have you begun putting out your professional portfolio and seeking art director's attentions, or are you still "building"?

    Keep it up!

    Odayga: Thanks. You too.

Quigleyer: Yep, I'm at VCU right now. Graduating in May and utterly terrified/excited of what happens after that. And thanks, I definitely feel like some of my work (the environments, more specifically) is finally getting to that professional point.

I've begun doing some professional work. Did a couple pieces for FFG and now I'm working on a huge series of illustrations for AEG that'll keep me busy for a while. I'm also trying to build up my portfolio some more before Illuxcon this year. And hey, if you're ever in the Richmond area again get in touch! Always glad to hang out with another CAer.

Some more progress on my latest portfolio piece:

Noah your work is outstanding. I visited your sketchbook last spring and was very impressed then. These new finished pieces really show some great growth, very inspiring! I am looking forward to your continued journey.

Ted E.: Thanks, man! That's one of the things I love about keeping a sketchbook like this: looking back and seeing progress. I can definitely see it myself, but I can also see how far I still have to go.

Messing around with a new potential portfolio piece:
