the way you draw figures is just gorgeous. you've got some that are really perfect, they suggest just enough form to give the figure volume with such sensitive modeling and value to portray the effect of light, awesome sketchbook

Back to basics. I left my painting equipment in Italy and I lost my stylus pen some years ago, so I'm only gonna use my pencil for a while.

I have a couple of paintings that are getting varnished and framed that will be photographed when they are done.

This is what i can do from imagination atm. I have a looooooooooong way to go.

Copied some of Chromosome's life drawings here.

    To do list:
    Get a job.
    Move out.
Post, or at least draw everyday.
Make the reality of life the reality I want to live.

Messy self portrait. Paper feels like soap.
Below are some figure oil paintings. They are dusty, kinda sunken in and I photographed them lying on the floor. The main issue that has been brought up by all the teachers, is the weakness in the drawing and the lack of a solid finish throughout. In a letter, danish 19th century painter Krøyer describes some of the procedures that were thought by his teacher, Lèon Bonnat. One certain part stands out to me, where Krøyer were astonished how technique were never thought, and how Bonnat would go over the same area repeatedly, over and over again, spanning several sessions, untill he got it right. I always had a problem employing this, since doing so would keep me in the block-in stage for too long. I need to conquer this.

Good job Andreas, I feel with you on those thoughts about getting out of block-in stages in longposes.
And don't be to hard on yourself with the imaginative stuff, observation and imagination goes hand in hand, one can't do without the other. But if one gets the upper hand the other will suffer. So just hang in there.
By the way are you done in florence now or are you going back? Must be the fourth year now right?
Recongnised one of the longposes, you were painting in the same group as Nick I see.
Hope summer is treating you nicely.

    mdbauman: thanks dude
Pencilator: Tjena, som ni sejer på svensk Yeah, the oil painting process is still a mystery to me. I left behind all my paints in Italy (baggage/budget restrictions)...starting to miss them quite a bit now. I'm done in school no. And yeah, Nick pretty much kicked everyones asses.

Bear with me on the extremely boring updates, I need to catch up on a couple of things, just burning through kChen and Brigdgman, like everyone else in here. Trying to post as much as possible for a while, possible everyday...

Transfer drawing for the painting above. I Painted her head too small!

Takk for svar.

    DanielC: Thanks for looking!

Sorry for not updating. Haven't been drawing much.

Here's some stuff. It's weird for me to draw from imagination. Tons of shit to learn.

This is it, I'm afraid. More boring studies. I'm in a slump these days, kinda burned out on several levels, and going through a phase of insecurity regarding where I'm going in life and in art. There's a chance all the studying have become a crutch, perhaps it's time to loosen up, let go of imposed expectations and just have fun. We'll see.

Okay, so what have we here...I made a collage of some of my oil paintings. The paintings below are in process of being varnished and framed, so I might upload some better pictures when I get them back. The painting of the old man barely got past the block in stage...sharp edges everywhere...

Yellowcardas, Texahol, John and bhanu: thanks for stopping by! Much appreciated.

Just wondering, does that Velasquez copy above look awfully green to you guys? It looks balanced on this screen, but it's extremely green on any Apple displays. Maybe I should replace it with a better balanced image.

anyway. The 3 first are from life/reference. The portraits were done in around 5 mi or so. The rest is my rusty attempts at drawing from my imagination (excluding the mucha copies in the last page).

really amazing stuff! part of me wish some stuff wasn't so smooth, but that's a matter of taste Those master studies in pencil at the top of the page are really super brilliant, as are the tree sketches!

Your work is coming on beautifully. A real pleasure to look at.
Those two tree studies up one or two posts - are unbelievably good. Marvelous pieces of drawing up there with the best.
