Its' free and it takes less than 10 seconds!
OK guys, this is what i need to figure out how to do. for some reason i just can't get it to work and am going absolutely insane.
i need to cut along the bottom of this geometry in order to separate the thing into a long strip. i tried cutting uv's but for some reason i can't pull a separate peice apart.
please, please help. thanks.
Its kind of hard to tell what the problem is just from the image, If you want you can send me the file and I'll tinker with it a bit.
let's see if this helps at all.
Try selecting the faces in question and giving them their own projection. From there you'll be able to scale/rotate/move and then sew back together your Uv's in texture space exactly how you want.
its funny you mention that grooveholmes...that's exactly what i ended up doing. it's funny how many ways you can go about doing something in 3d. thanks again for all the help!! it's nice to receive answers to problems:p
do you have any advice for me in regards to getting your mesh ready to paint? should i just spread everything out evenly? how to avoid stretching? tips or tricks?
Polygon textureing is one thing I haven't done too much of in maya. I've been doing alot of reading up on it lately though because it is an important area that I need improvement in myself.
Couple things that were mentioned in my research that should help: To avoid stretching try and make sure that when you lay out your Uv's they stay as close to being the same size and shape as your actual polygons in uv texture space. And just take it slow, don't get in too much of a hurry; as this stuff can be frustrating at times. In most cases multiple simple planar projections will do the trick.
That's all for now, Keep pluggin along man!
yes, i am frustrated right now. already layed out UV's.as this stuff can be frustrating at times
am getting lots of stretching. about... to .....go ....crazy.
