    Figuring out the tiles. The Roger Dean style is very much about coherence of direction and negative spaces on a larger scale. Small tiles don't play well with their neighbours so some massive tiles would be needed, and/or a clever tiling system.

    I haven't thought much about the game. Just playing around with the vocabulary here.

    Thinking about the merits of a palette with warm/cool (rust/metal). A lot of Amiga-era games used two main gradients like that, sometimes very saturated (Myth, Killing Game Show), sometimes a bit more muted.
    This onelooks nice, with occasional metal highlights where the rust has wore off. Dig the chiaroscuro light. Kow Yokoyama and Roger Dean might work well together.

    I saw this strange kind of duck mech helmet in a Star Wars trailer on Gametrailers.com. Made me want to steal the idea for it. Then I woke up, scribbled it down at the bottom. Not as good as in the dream, but it might still be usable for something.

    Your sketches have a great charm to them. Also like your uncluttered design style, clear shapes, appealing silhouettes. Seems not many artists pay attention to these things nowadays.

    For this project I've been treating the masses/silhouettes a bit differently, letting some abstract qualities command. Normally, I let the appearance of some obscure sprite command.

    At that earliest moment of creation, it's often better to not let the habits of the brain decide. That's what inspiration is for, isn't it?

    My KS would be a "4X" strategy game, I think.

    This thing would be and Exile-ish (BBC micro game), atmospheric kinda deal.

    But I like moss. It's my fetish - ruins of an ancient dead civilization, now covered by plains of moss or short grass.

    Highlights were overdone. I can't seem to nail the shadow-light-air combo. I might have to fog the things quite a bit because of the amount of parallaxing elements, or the foreground characters will be too hard to read.

    Tried adding a bone color, but perhaps it's one color too many. I wanted the mountains to have a similar material as the FG stuff in some way.

    About the parallaxing background; perhaps the value band for each layer is a hair too wide? I would venture that the detail density between the layers also requires more differentiation.

    The more layers, the flatter the values of the layers might have to be, I dunno. I can adjust with curve layers in PS now, tho in reality I need to consider atmos perspective more.

    Straight top-down views works super-poorly with animated humanoid figures. People look like bars with blobs oscillating in and out (limbs). Perhaps I made the mistake of trying to design these droids from the front before. They need to read and look good from above first and foremost. Also, it's a lot easier to get forms right when working in perspective, since you're more aware of the 3 dimensions and have to solve more of the design problem, unlike with 2D orthos. Of course, I haven't really solved the problem here (too rough), but it's a "feel" iteration in the right direction, I think. Ref sprites.

    I remember going into an electronics store and looking at awesome looking portable cassette tape players (blanket name in Sweden was Freestyles/Fri-stajls) in different price classes, XD

    The earrings are Unit Type 001 from Paradroid, and WizBall (a game which apparently is a classic, perhaps because of the coop thing).

    I tried to do a puzzle game. Idea failed practically. It's really hard to balance puzzle games, perhaps they're more binary with the rigid logic. Fun or not fun.

    Experimenting with Pokémon designs and brushes. Setting the ink brush to a 35% min diameter and 60% size jitter for natural line roughness might be something which I'll continue to do. I like varied line weight, but the superthin part of the lines isn't that useful when doing cartoon lines. Better to dot-fade them.

    Yeah, it works pretty well. I tried inking something, using the rotation feature on the tablet to get better curves, but it's kind of a pain in the arse. Also, my wrist is terrible.

    Face looks like that winking mustache-girls gif. I don't like it. Also, unnecessary curve on the neck on the green one. Also again, they both lack a visual pun.

    New version. Not much of a visual pun, but Ozone = O3. Blue and Orange is opposite on the color wheel, so I didn't know which color to do for the intermediate Dragonite form.

    Spent most of the day on this rather esoteric venture. N165 is a rock on Mars, which the MSL just shot with its Hyper Beam, I mean laser. I thought it would be fun to turn it into Deoxys (#386), which is the NASA Pokémon. It evolves by eating Blue Berries, which are actually small round Martian stones.

    Did posts disappear during the migration?

    Anyways, here's my latest project and purchases.

    I had no idea if this would actually work. The fan displaces 100 cu/m per hr,
    which is about... a medium-hard human powered blow. It should create
    sufficient under-pressure in the box, I hope.
    The hose/tube might be a bit short at 1.5m, but I needed a compact one.

    Work setup. I did my first electrical work since school,
    adding a switch to an old power cord and attaching it to the fan.

    This is a kitchen fan filter, not something to filter fumes with.
    I just don't want too much paint particles in the fan.
    A finer filter might choke the fan considerably more than the current setup.
    The black rubber ring around the cord should isolate some of the electrical stuff from moisture,
    but I don't know if junk will accumulate in the... spinny joint.

    New Tamiya acrylic paints! Will be interesting to see how these work.
    Will phase out the GW/Citadel ones which have only ever been OK.
    Vallejo stuff is great, I hear.

    The airbrush station was probably about 75 usd in material. Paints were almost 140.
    I've had the Italieri compressor for a while, but using it has been a hassle.
    I use acrylics so there are no fumes, but the paint particles were always a worry,
    and working outside is not practical and a no-no with high humidity.

    It's just a paint booth though, not a compressor. Costs were listed above. It goes on the company.
