Last Man Standing 3 - ROUND 3 / Matches 1-6
Last Man Standing 3 - ROUND 3 / Matches 1-6
Polish up that hefty set of brass balls, ladies and gentlemen, because they're about to be plucked out of your pink little hands by the freshest crop of entrants. Out of pure masochistic pleasure and a loathing for spending my free time wisely, Last Man Standing lives on through year 3 in what promises to be its most massive cycle yet.
A planned 360 contenders (not counting pussouts) over 4 rounds. 456 new pieces of artwork. 1 winner. And not one 1-on-1 battle. Shit is going to get intense.
The complete listing of LMS3 Round One matches can be found here:
http://www.lastmanart.com/lms3/round03
Deadline: 11:59pm PST - Sunday, June 22nd 2008
Topic: Unfair Advantage
The topic, as always, is completely open to interpretation, allowing for you to visualize your concept through any subject matter you deem fit. This is an illustration-based contest, and you will be expected to turn in a completed piece that stands on its own without the aid of a description. Both traditional and digital mediums can be used, but the majority of your piece must be painted/drawn with little use of photography and 3D modeling.
Round Breakdown (links to discussion threads):
- Round 1 - 360 competitors in 72 matches of 5 / 72 advance
Entry threads / Matches 1-24 / 25-48 / 49-72 - Round 2 - 72 competitors in 18 matches of 4 / 18 advance
Entry thread / Matches 1-18 - Round 3 - 18 competitors in 6 matches of 3 / 6 advance
- Final Round - 6 men enter, one man leaves...
Judging: Every round will be judged by an incredibly talented group of judges... the list is still being finalized, but it will be a relatively static panel throughout the competition. Each piece will be judged based on technical execution, creativity in the interpretation of the topic, and overall impact. All judges decisions are final. No whining!
Also, a point system will be implemented from here on out. Points will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and last place for each match.
Judging Panel:
Aleksi Briclot
Rob Carney
Brian Despain
Dan Dos Santos
Irene Gallo
Jon Foster
Gregory Manchess
JS Rossbach
Important note about the thread layout:
There is one match in every post. The entries correspond as follows:
User1 vs User2 vs User3 vs User4
Image1 is User1
Image2 is User2
Image3 is User3
Image4 is User4
Users who have pussed out will not be listed to avoid confusion.
Rusty was also moved from match 17 to match 12 randomly to fill one of three pussout slots.
Without further ado, round two.

One word.
Fuck.
These ladies and gentlemen pulled it off! Drop dead gorgeous. I'm particularly fond Baron Impossible, but holy hell, those judges are in for one hell of decision this round.

Awesome!
All of them are worth listing as entirely fantastic.
But right now I am head over heals in love with Thom's, Bluefooted's and my competition, Cicinimo's.

Wow, that was an amazing round! Great stuff all the way around!

Great stuff all around. Congratulations, everyone! My favorites...
Hurricane - I like it because who has the unfair advantage could go either way.
Jason - Perfect technique, and I laughed out loud. That's a good combination.
Bluefooted - Sublime as always. I want to write the fairytales that go with your drawings.
Baron Impossible - A lot of folks did this same basic idea, but I think you pulled it off best. Lots of imagination, humor and action.
Steak-Tron - Great technique, and another one where I can't tell who actually has the unfair advantage. Nice.
Fedezz - I liked all the others, but this is hands down (pun intended) the winner. Spooky and beautiful and full of atmosphere, like an old blues song. Fantastic. I'd write the story for this one too.

Overall fave is Baron Impossible's. OMG. The wacky wit, dramatic view and action - nice. It's both Sam Peckinpah and Sam Raimi all rolled into one incredible piece.
Bluefooted's elegance. Hurricane's grand scenic structure. But really, beautiful and varied work throughout by everyone!
Good luck to the judges!

Bluefooted and Thom, y'all are quite kicking butts!
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
