Updates are looking good amigo! I'm psyched to see a full figure in that last post of yours, on another note I'd love to see more tattooed ladies, maybe a full body one

    Keep it up!

MGLDyson, Love your character sketches here. And the logos/posters look like etched wood panels sort of. I saw in a post you mentioned going to SCAD? Did that prove to be a big success in the progress of your artistic skill? I was also wondering how you got to the point where you can come up with those characters like that and draw them so cleanly? I'm really not sure where I'm headed in my drawing but I would love to be able to think and draw what I see in my mind - such freedom that would be! I would have so many things to put down on paper. Ultimately my goal would be to draw entirely from memory. I will stop back here soon and look at your work again. Its very inspiring. Pce

    Thanks fellers...

AustenFM: Thanks, I am making a conscious effort to make the lower half of the body more interesting to me. I plan on continuing with the tattooed femmes.

danlucas: Going to SCAD was a great experience. You get out only what you put into it, though.

The best and most technically influencing class was Life Drawing. It was invaluable.

I also got an assload of exposure to other styles, people, ideas, perspectives on life, etc... it all influences your style and technique. I would go back for a Master's Degree in a heartbeat if it were paid for.

I got to the point of clean lines because I like clearly delineated forms. What I like influences what I actually do, a lot. I grew up reading comic books, watching cartoons, and anime. So, clean lines are always what I strove for.

I like to lay out a composition with geometric forms like squares, cylinders, prisms, etc... first. Kind of like building with clay. Everything can be broken down into geometric forms (especially the human body). Once I tighten up the rough, I can outline my forms with varying line weights and fill in detail. Usually, I will rough my drawing out with a 2H pencil I have cut down to a chiseled tip. Once that is over I will outline with a B lead .5mm mechanical pencil.

    Hope that helps.

    I know, I know...

it's kinda' hard to tell what the fuck is going on in the right side picture... none the less, I was goofing around and the more I look at the pic the more I don't like it. Here it is, anyway.

And, here's a color progress shot of the other last pic I uploaded. It's got a long way to go, but you can somewhat see the color scheme for whcih I am going.

Plus, some head... trying not to get hemmed into a particular female face structure, too much.

Hey man, thanks for the great advice. I def should try to do more
geometric forms for what I draw. I think I do subconsciously do that
to a degree but maybe that is where I am getting stumped.

yeah, i do see alot of the human body similar to geometry. I study Bridgeman
and Hogarth and they seem to do that alot. I want to come up with
characters too like that, i just want to know the human form more.
I believe I am making progress. I usually draw 4 or 5 hrs a day. i can only
get so much done in a day while going to college full time.

Your new updates are really awesome. I didn't watch TV growing up, and I never even looked at any comics so I think that is why I'm tending to draw
more towards real life and more classically. I think you have a great talent
for your genre of art. I think you know what you are doing.

Keep up the good work. I will take your advice and put it to use.
    Pce

Looking really good. I can see that you pay a lot of attention to your line quality and weight. If you could give the same amount of attention to your shading I think that would really help your work. The last few posts do show improvement in that area, but mainly on the characters. Backgrounds are part of the picture, too. You might try using the side of a standard wood pencil (or a leadholder, if you don't want to sharpen so much). That will give you a much smoother tone and lend an extra element of professionalism.

    Keep up the great work!

Looking good lately, those lumber demons are especially great, love how you designed and rendered them. I would really like to see some "normal" human full figures rendered out with that much love.

Very inspiring, i hope you can update more often

a character design.. and more stuff.

    Steve G: Thanks, man.

Traveler: Yeah, I tend to leave the backgrounds sparse as that's the last thing I get to on a sketch. I'll bear your crit in mind. Thanks!

AustenFM: The woods can be scary. Watching "AntiChrist" and then having seen J. Tillman in concert (where he mentioned satanism and sex magic...) reminded me of the woods' creepiness. Perhaps I'll get more opportunities to do some real humans... and perhaps I can update more often. I've been doing real work a lot more, recently. Thanks for keeping up with me, man.

    Been busy:

    1) Character concept... not the final.

    2) Logo for this year's Magic City Brewfest and color version

    More to come, soon.

I think that four stars is a bit too little for all this awesomeness. So five from me.
