    PAGE 9 AND I STILL SUCK...DAMMIT!!!!!
...Time for me to really get serious now...push myself to be the best i can be and when I reach that, push some more!

snootchy Thanks man! as for my approach to sketches, I usually start out with some light gesture lines and then I place construction lines on top of that..not doing a good job of it though since I still always have wonky faces and figures ( drifting off to the right)..I do need to work on that.

shamandalie Thanks for dropping by! Say hi to Zal for me!
You two make a wonderful couple!

parascythejack Congratulations on your daughter! Hope your wife is doing well. And it would be nice to do a collab with you..or a sketchbook support group..( wondering why the pinoys here haven't done that..)

strings ARTRAGE baby! Thanks for the compliments! Don't forget to put a link to your SB in your sig though...

ok, now onto the recent chapter of my struggle with art:

I did some more work on the creature tribesman guy, plan to work some more on him too, I find it relaxing...

and of course, what would my SB be without some seminaked babes?
No reference for their faces or poses..which probably explains why I sh#t bricks fixing them up..
will be working more on these two as well...

Hey dood, great update!! the sketches and studies look great; really like the orc portrait, only thing with that one that looks a bit off is where the hair is positioned. It looks like it should be behind the head more, if the look was to create hair coming out behind the head.

Female line sketches look great as usual wif that sensual rhythm >)

The 2 female characters that you rendered out, have good overall proportions, as for doing their faces, it seems a little overworked, i think keeping the rendering minimal (especially on a girls face gives it a real feminine attribute)

Great job wif the updates, now give us some mo!!

Wow nice sketchbook, good volume of study, good to see all the figure practice! It definitely pays off man. The sketches on the beach are excellent, made me jealous I haven't seen a sunny beach in years!

I like the creature face on this page too

The noses, armor, car, knives page is really good. The rest of that post is good as well, but that page really shows your improvement in a lot of different areas - anatomy, rendering, shading, even composition. Good stuff.

    Angry

Peetaer Thanks man! I'm actually working on some pieces based on the sights I saw in Thailand ( both natural and unnatural!) I'll post these when I get done with them...
Snootchy I totally agree with your crits, yes, the way the hair is positioned now on the creature tribesman (I'll probably rename him someday..) is awkward...and those girls faces need some softening up..will probably redraw them and start over again..as of now, I think they are overworked...Thanks man!
AlexTooth Thanks for dropping by! You have a nice SB as well, I dig your music too man!
MaldrinThanks! I do need to put some more variety in here...need to draw things other than full/semi naked women..that's why I'm trying out drawing weapons and stuff.
Meduza I can't thank you enough for that useful link man! It opened my eyes to a lot of things that i was struggling with. Maraming salamat kabayan! Malaking bawas sa frustration ko yung natutunan ko sa link na iyon.
I'm going through a shitload of personal issues right now but seeing that link just made me more confident that I can do what I want to do for a living someday! A thousand, nay, A TRILLION thanks man!

    Ok, update time!

    Nice work man

In the end I think it really just matters how much you put into art, not your innate talent

I know because I'm often told I'm talented, however I'm super lazy
One look at the dates between updates in my sketchbook will tell you that

But sketchbooks like yours motivate me to get more mileage

dood just freakin beautiful line work my fav of all is the valkrye girl portrait in post 250, the expression on her face is achieved with minimal line work and good proportions also ur last 2hr study shows a lot more pleasing rendering as it does not appear to be over worked; i guess knowing when to say 'when' is a skill asset in itself in art =.)

Man, you're killing these studies. I really, really need to follow your example. Thank you for stopping by my sketchbook - means a lot to receive a compliment from such a hard-working artist.

RESPEC' to the fellow asian artists (half korean here). Can't wait to see what you post next.

Btw, I'm fascinated by your WIPs and your drawings of women.

Sup dewd, great follow up on the female rendering! I'm really liking how your keeping the rendering simple and the shapes big, gives the figure a lot more form; i think it's a big step up from ur previous women renderings.

Also the initial block in colors are great for the orc; can't wait to see that finished with all the textures and punchier darks and lights!!

those are some great studies! I can see that they're paying off big times.
on those digis, don't forget to flip your canvas horizontaly once in a while to get a bit of a fresh view on things and maybe spot some perspective mistakes.
things tend to look completely different when flipped
    keep sharing!

AlexTooth yeah, Loomis is a godsend. It's like, a page of Loomis studies a day, keeps badly drawn figures away...
Nettle Mountain Thank you! But I think its a SB full of solid mistakes
And yes, I do have to work on lighting and values..really really need to work on that among other things.
kingkostas Thanks man! I'm trying hard to suck less at art, hopefully it's working..
kinjura Thank you! I bought a book here of a collection of awesome concept art by Korean artists..it was compiled and printed by a chinese publisher though and I don't know if it was licensed or not...that bothers me..
But it was a great showcase of art, showing what all hard working artists can achieve, asian or non asian, ( or in my case, non oriental asian , my grandfather was from HongKong but I'm a pure angry filipino baby!).
Although in my opinion, Korean artists are fast catching up, if not overtaking the japanese artists when it comes to originality, coolness and attention to detail in "manga" inspired concept art.
Gelvin nice to see you again! yeah, drawing everyday really helps. a lot.
snootchy Hi dude! I really want to get good at painting females, that way, when I am competent at it, then I can unleash the sick perverted idea I've always wanted to paint!
And thinking of how to finish "Benny" the orc tribesman is keeping me up at nights...
monotony Thanks! Yeah, drifting faces/figures is one of my main frustrations..sometimes when I flip the image, I almost get a heart attack by how awful a "good" drawing looks when flipped. Hopefully, drawing more will get rid of that.
Gilead So nice of you to visit again! Thanks for the compliments, I only wish I had the ability to be at that level..maybe someday when I'm like 85 years old or something

Thanks to everyone who took time to visit and leave a comment!

Dude your comments around your drawings crack me up. My wife was like "What are you laughing at" and I struck a pose and was all "STOP! Loomis time." In between the comments, your art continues to shine. I do like the mixed male faces you did - you do need a bit more consistency, but I could tell they were all supposed to be the same guy, which is a challenge!

On the babe you're working on now, the three stage image does show that you've made a lot of improvement on her. The main thing that bugs me is that her mouth, while beautifully rendered, seems a bit too small. Also, you might try shading around her arm instead of along it. Harold Speed points out in The Practice and Science of Drawing (my favorite book, probably) that shading down the length of something implies hardness and edges, shading against the length implies softness and smoothness.

Also, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook! I need to get some new stuff there. Your diligent updates are inspiring! I started doing Bridgman studies again tonight - it's been years since I did it last and I need the refresher.

Oh yeah one more crit - your work is great, so stop calling it names. I expect to not see any more adjectives like "crappy" and "pathetic."
