Gimme Face #4 - Pucker up my Hero
If you haven't yet worked it out, this weekly thread involves everything to do with the FACE or HEAD. Getting the face or head features is one of the most important skills to learn as an artist, especially as a figuretive or character artist. Basicly you mess up, and its totaly noticable. Theres nothing worse than creating a great piece of art, except all the character faces look dead or lifeless.
So here's the plan, each week I'll give you a project that involves a face or head, this could be anything from basic line structure to full colour images, realistic human face to animated hamsters, stone bust to famous faces such as charlie chaplin or sweeny todd. Basicly everything goes, and it may not be just one image, some projects may include multiple faces, similer to the spartan thread.
Project #4 - Pucker up my Hero
1. Produce an image of a made up or well known super hero, pouting his/her lips ready for a kiss. Can be giver or reciever.
2. Any hero you wish, human or animal.
3. Head and face only, as usual.
Project end - wed 25th june

nice image chuck, but c'mon i know you can do better,
try staying away from the usual cliche' people, give us something unique
the 'uniqueness` is pretty minimal.
besides I thought the point was achieving a good rendition for the given facial expression in the topic. that in itself requires an immediate "usual cliche'".... in a sense. (if a facial expression is to read well, a certain "cliche" of that expression must be drawn into it. otherwise the onlooker might not recognize it as the said expression.)
what your saying is totally right, so i can't argue with you, so i apologise. I only mentioned it becouse i've seen your other work, so i know you can do much better. I just like to see people push themselves a little and hopefully they'll then gain something out of these little projects. So i guess it comes down to me in the end, and how i wright out these weekly projects, mmm... food for thought i think
Chuck, that's one adorable Peter Parker =)
KISSman to the rescue.
brather, i dont think your monkey has enough super hero elements to it
What, no Supe? That ain't right!
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).
Moleman needs some luvin.
no probs brather, only problem is i dont see a way how i can delete your entry, its probably best you do it yourself if you want, but if i was you, i'd just add a small mask that just covers your chimps eyes, just like batmans sidekick "robin".
also well done to everyone thats joined in, looks like this place is getting more and more crowded each week.
decypl: i know you didnt realise until later but read the rules first next time please, their there for a reason. if there was a vote set up then i would not accept your image, no matter how much you may have worked on it. Sorry
this topic seem to be not very strict, then... well, my problem is that I wanted to draw a girl, but I don't know superheros, I'm from another world, it seems... I made a very dirty sketch about Catwoman, then I found out that she's on the other side... I wish to be a very nice little one here, so I try to find a hero woman, but I have not much time for research and I like Catwoman's appearance *sigh* I don't care if my entry will be invalid, I just wanted to make something for this very topic. showing my little things are more exciting than making studies secretly
we'll see, but I wish express my joy about these topics! they're for me, it seems. face is so important and the human face is my favourite topic and I recently started drawing faces with expressions... it's not so easy...
I just can't write in a short way, sorry.
Es-squeeze me, make way for the Hero of Lurve! He showed up just in time last night for me to ask him to pose--after he 'helped' hubby and I with some marital issues. Much fun was had by all.
And no I don't really know the hero genre that well so I made one up.
grenogs: I've spent more than an hour just to find out Catwoman's appearance (she had a few... and I got distracted), so I think it's better to draw already
I saw that I could use a make-up hero, but my creativity isn't so great, that's even more difficult... but I'll try something this evening, it's my last chance!
sorry for writing without a pic then... some opinion about the posted drawings instead?
Chuck: not very original okay, you couldn't resist and it's nicely rendered. I saw your works in the previous gimme face topics, I like them very much
brather: I think the expression is ambigious... the monkey shows too much from his/her teeth and the teeth catch my eye, not the lips... and after some time, I still see two very different expressions on the face.
Tommoy: great! Kissman obviously put his whole heart into kissing! even his closed eyes show this
decypl: it's obviously out.
I find most of the others nice, I especially like Sinix's one.

I had an idea today. it was easy when I used a pen, but with tablet I just can't control my lines. I ended up using mostly the eraser and my wrist is aching... anyway, here is my entry she's a made up hero, Bunny Girl (I just couldn't part with animal ears, you see).
