A Magical Gathering of Cards |*| 7.17.08
Hi Everyone! this is my first post, though I've been a long time fan of these forums
I've been playing a card game called Magic: the Gathering on and off for around 15 years now.. and have always liked making my own fake cards..
One day I got the idea to try and make my own magic set, and thought that a sketchbook thread would be a nice way of keeping it all together and to try and improve!
I'd love to illustrate for Magic for real some day.. so any support/critiques/advice welcome!

Seems like a start for an interesting thread, I like what I see!

Great start! I agree, already looking like genuine cards. I love how well Goblin party reads even though it's quite a buisy composition for such a small image. Good work!
Can't wait for more!

I also got sucked into magic for the art
I'm happier with how this one reads small.. it's quite challenging to try to do so

holy shit! loving this thread. i have played magic for many years, and will continue to play for many many more. these cards seem quite balanced as far as cost and abilities go. Could definitely be real cards.
Since you are planning on making your own set what kind of parameters did you come up with?
ex: invasion being multicolored. onslaught mainly creatures and tribes. etc.
this is going to be one hell of a portfolio piece, even if you stopped now it would be. Keep em coming!

thanks for the support and advice everyone
mbetteker - havn't thought too much about that.. the way things are going, it seems it'll be a tribal/creature sort of set (probably because i like to paint those guys the most).. but I will try to do some lands and spells and stuff for practice
two new ones! i like the way the faerie one turned out, as far as how it looks in the frame, and it's abilities

Did some character concept art for myself recently, and wanted to see what they looked like as magic cards..
(me trying to explain the lack of backgrounds)
I love these Ouphe creatures that exist in the magic world.. I don't know much about whether they exist elsewhere (perhaps D&D).. But they're really fun to draw

welll, you'll have a good selection to show to WotC thats for sure. Which you should look into doing after you finish a few more . Wouldn't be too hard for you to get work.
