watch me learn how to draw! (please leave some crits.. :( )

BELOW is my old intro.. like a while ago already i've been so lazy >_< but im much more motivated now hope to get much better soon.. i need to or else im screwed well i removed my first few images because i wanted to update my thread pic but they were terribad anyway haha. please leave crits and comments... would really appreciate them!

Hi everyone I'm new to conceptart and I would just to create a new sketchbook thread to introduce myself to this community and hopefully get some crits, learn something about art, and maybe make some online friends or whatever

    Anyway a little about myself:

    DOB: nov 5 1988
    sex: M
location: Hong Kong (UK for university...)

I'm currently actually studying law at the university of leeds, but i've been really thinking about changing to something art or design related because that's what i'm really interested in. However i don't know if it's too late to do so because i have 1 more year of uni then i'd be 20 already O_O and also i would need to catch up in terms of drawing and painting and everything so it would be a lot of time to spend on practicing...anyway...if any of you have any helpful ideas about this issue for me i would really really really appreciate it.

enough about myself, here are some quick 15min-1hour practices i've been doing with photo references / things lying around my desk to learn more about light and colour and that kind of stuff

    thank you.

Hi! Good start to a SketchBook!
Were these done over a sketch or painted on directly?
    Hope to see more!

This is not a bad start. These studies are very nice. If you are thinking about going into art, it is all about how much you want it. Do not be afraid of the age thing. If you can focus and spend most of your time doing this, go in to art. Never be deterred by the skill level of those around you, because if you continue to work you could surpass them. By the way you asked about thanking people, at the bottom right of every post there is a small button labeled THANKS. just click it. Post again soon.

For the picture of someone cutting themselves, I think it looks nice, but someone unrealistic. The lines on the arms give them a more wooden appearance than flesh, and the blood is messily drawn. I mean, if that's the style you were going for with the arms, however, nice job!

Is Law really what you want? or what your parents want?
Do you feel happy going to classes everyday?
Would you feel good practicing law, helping people and bring justice?

I asked the same questions to myself and I realized that I probably won't be happy with 15 years of medical scholarship. My parents were upset, hell yeah. You know how Chinese parents are sometime..

It's never too late mate, good luck

reflective materials can be tricky especially if they are man made objects as we tend to make things very unnatural and have solid lines and angles on things.

For a challenge you should try something more natural like a couple leaves or bamboo i have found is quite good as the values in it can vary greatly with a broken off end. Nature tends to be a bit forgiving on form also.

grafguy eavab mentler hyetothesky, thanks for the comments!

here's another still life practice i guess. i feel more confident in picking out the values and colours now. maybe it's just because this cat's shape is simpler? lol who knows. this ones unfinished. (ears and reflections..) maybe i'll finish it someday.

Dude, grea to see all the life paintings! Helps a lot, doesn't it? Do more of these! No really, can't give much advice on these since nature is the best teacher anyway. YOur brushwork looks pretty good too, remember to always use the biggest possible brush. Maybe play around with texture and edge hardness too.
And show us some pencils! Keep it up man!
