Outstanding work, just a question, how long does it take for you to make Those studies?

Very nice sketchbook Ste!! Love your portraits, especially the most recent one, it looks great. I think you could give his eyes a little more contrast, but thats only a minor crit, love it how it is already.

    Keep up the great work!!

    Cheers guys.

fudgeloaf - I'm trying to get a better handle on colour so a lot of the recent studies I have just gone straight in with colour.

Those hand studies are awesome, on the bouguereau I spotted something was off and I think I found a couple of small points.
In your study her nose has one big bended line going up to the eyebrows. While in the original painting there seems to be a more apparent bump in her nose, which would result in the top of her nose going to the right a tad more, which would cause her right (our left) eye to move to the right a bit more too. Starting a chain reaction that would alter the shape of her right (our left) outline of her face making her cheekbones stand out a little less.
I think her mouth also needs to be wider towards the right and her left (our right) eye seems to be tilted down a bit too much.

I really like the way you did the hair and how you achieved a general softness in her face. Oh that reminds me, I think her hairline could also be moved down a little.

Hope this was helpful and keep up the great work.

Teundeboer - Thanks for taking the time to leave me some feedback, I really struggled to get anywhere close to a likeness to the original. I might go back in and try and fix a few things, your tips will come in handy.

Here's a value study I did yesterday from a Carl Dobsky oil painting.

You are definitely an inspiration for me!
Everytime I go through sketchbooks, I feel the urge to go directly back to training!

Yours makes me feel really bad about not working currently!
I guess it is a wonderful thing hehe

    take care

[ste] you're the man. Some of the most detailed gray-scale studies I've seen in a while. You're always workin hard, and soon, through all the chaos, you're gonna bloom into a beautiful flower. Keep it comin.
