My favorite one of those is the elephant.

Great paintig studies as always! I think your lineart could be more decisive though. Anatomical correctness is important, but confidence in the strokes is important too.

That step by step def helped!! and the brushes are awesome, just made my night better, a lot to explore

The studies are looking clean and have a good flow to them.

The value studies are looking great as well, however, the right side of the girl's face is off..not sure if it's the eye, cheekbone, or her nose, but something's botherin me. oh and the values in the elephant could be pushed a little further to make him pop, mainly the darks/shadows

lookin forward to new update as usual!

    ...the imperfections make it interesting...

Feels like I've been slacking when it comes to environments so here's something I been messing with the last couple of days. Still might need some work but I think I learnt a few things doing it.

That last enviro looks great!! My only critique might be that the depth of field is lost at points where the object meets the immediate background, possibly a little too bright to the right of the statue. shrug

looking great dude! keep us updated!

Erdbeerfeldheld - Thanks, not sure how long I spent on it, may be 4 or 5 hours. Painted it over a couple of days.

    Towy - Thanks man.

Dope Fiend - Thanks for dropping by again. I can see so many things wrong with the last enviro, it lacked any sort of planning and I ended up just practising my rendering on it which is the only reason I completed it.

Fudgeloaf - Thanks mate, I got my copy this morning. Kind of strange seeing my work printed for the first time.

The Flying Dutchman - Thanks for stopping by.

    TheJackal - Cheers mate.

More value studies, some are a little unfinished but it's hard to know how long to really spend on a study.

Monster Portraits are from a link I got from Fetsch, http://schellstudio.com/gallery/ Great to practice to and a lot more fun than drawing boxes.

Looks great man. About your color stuff, I feel like it's really apparent that you use greyscale to color technique in most of the stuff. At least for me it is easy to see. I don't know if that is a bad thing or to change it really. I don't feel like it is much real warmth in the stuff. Excuse me for this badly formulated critique, I just got home and I have had a few drinks. Anyway, looking goooooooood!

Thanks Alexson, The trouble I'm having at the moment is I really enjoy working in greyscale but I hate colouring from it. I always find it hard to separate the colours so everything ends up looking pretty monochrome.
I also think it feels pretty random, sometimes its looks ok others times it just ends up a mess and I have an image I can't do anything with.

I need to make a point of doing a lot more colour studies in the future.

Speaking of colouring from grayscale this my attempt from earlier this evening to practise it a little more.

Nice updates Ste i understand what you man with the monochrome thing, but even after realising it i can see a difference with your bear/lion guy doesnt look monochrome at all in comparison to the creature above, is this still just with layers set to colour or did you use a wash then just a normal layer over the top? Cheers man keep it up

Cheers Fudgeloaf, I used a couple of overlay and softlight layers then painted on top.

i think if you added a few highlight spots to the yellow creature it would seem less greyscale, it's mainly because the legs gradate down, and there's very little that pops.

fuck dude you're getting so good!! i need to kick my ass in gear, and i'm already running on empty, stop by some time and rip my shit to pieces

    keep up the good work!
