transformers concept & other concept works > pls go to page2 < (updated 9 OCT 2008)

another transformer concept work of mine.
it took me 4 days to complete it.
    from concept sketch to modelling.
i done lot of sketch before final the concept design.

this concept piece is part of my very exciting process.
it took me a time to sturdy of a robot anatomy.
how it transform to robot and back.

more into structure, visual and form.

it is one of my concept art collection for transformers projects.
like usual, my style is more to black & white.
    marker effect rendering.
most of my concept art are in 3d.

i want to make galvatron into new nemesis with
    mean and powerful destroyer.
it is protoform concept. which he is still at cybertron version.
    the biggest change is :
    - with dual proton canon destroyer at each hand.

hope no offense any galvatron's fan here.
it is just my personal concept design.

please feel free to drop by my previous
    transformer concept - WHEELJACK

I have to agree with Robert.B

All those insignificant details subtract from the over figures form and appearance.
As a concept design, I personally find these layouts a little too difficult to read. What are these parts comprised of? Not to be crude here, but the design almost appears as if its a combination of erector sets. And as a last remark, the design in no way relates to the original Galvatron, regardless of its redesign.

On a side note, you have great fluency with lines. Very clean, just a little too..."Extreme"

I personally don't find it busy given what it is and it's one hell of a sketch up job so nice details. It's a good design, but I think to make it really readable to your viewers you need to add color (or at least greater value changes) to break up all the lines. It shouldn't be all that hard, just add color to the background and add an overlay layer and color in some details, use dodge and burn to punch out the metal and you're golden.

I just recently started using sketch up but more for architectural stuff. I can't even begin to think how you did something like that in sketch up though. Did you create it all in sketchup or just import it from somewhere else?

What's he look like transformed? Don't get me wrong, it's awesome, but kinda looks like he's made up of only joints.

I am a fan of the classic transformers but am rather unintroduced to Galvatron. Is there any chase that you could render him in his other transformed stages? Other than that top notch work man! I respect anybody who can render mechanics of any type to that level.

I don't really see how it relates to galvatron. The gun is kinda similar. Does he transform?

A for effort, though. Clearly a lot of work was done on this guy.

    thanks you everyone.

well for first i would like to say in early it is protoform base character.
which mean he is still very organic type.
    he is also non transformable.
like i mention before, i would like to redesign the whole galvatron character just like other transformer character in the movie.
it is totally different from anime/cartoon.
just like ironhide, bumbeebee, starscream or any character.
it is totally new concept, something new.
more fusion and and more hybrid.

about my render part, most of my concept art is black and white.
but i would really want to render it with vray.
just i need some time coz i have to finish some recent project first.

    thanks again for the c & c.
even i m still new at here but it is lot of fun hanging around.
this is really nice of concept art site and i should join it early.

finally, autobots transform and roar out !!!

here is my previous works on

Wow that last one you posted is really nice... I especially like the model of the car.
I was wondering, is that car a completely separate model? or is it the robot all folded up?

    One more thing?
What program are you using? and how long have you been working with it?

    Again, some nice modeling work.

That must have taken a lot of time.
Did you actually rigged all of those seperate moving parts?
I have one point of critique: Galvatron seems to be made out of a lot of the same parts, especially the legs.

Anyway, great job and good luck with redesigning the other robots.

That is some pretty fancy concepts right there. Love the galvatron designs.

I think what simoncheng is trying to do with Galvatron is to show the organic form of Galvatron. Meaning, he hasn't taken up form of any object/machine/vehicle. He is just metalwork and what he'd look like without anything to transform into. (I could be wrong )

    It's hard to explain..

    I love transformers

TF meet LEGO Technic. I can't choose between enthousiasm and perplexity. To me the design is very strong and the rendering is crisp , very good work.
But (oh my primus) it's supposed to be Galvatron, I can sense a sadistic and violent character in this design, someone really malevolent. But to me Galvatron is also cunning, a kind of perfect Megatron.
Perhaps I'm I too in love with those G1 bots.

The latest one is very nice, I'm aware you've got the right line-width when close-up, but when we see the whole thing the lines sort of... "gray out". You *might* be able to get away with darkening them from the distance (even simply duplicating the lineart layers depending how you work).

Amazing designs. I wasn't really a huge fan of the new "super-technical-complex" Transformers though, but hot damn these designs of yours look very good and professional.

I think I must have misread that late the other night. Probably with me using sketchup so much at work lately and him saying sketch several times (minus the up part) coupled with the lack of sleep from end of semester projects and the fact that it looks like rendering with line art which is somewhat similar to what sketchup looks like must have muddled my thinking.

Just the same, it remains impressive whatever program he might have used.

The new one is less busy and easier to read than that first one.

    thanks everyone.

the last work/image i post is wheeljack.
it is pretty original g1 autobot team member.
every part is rigged. it is also animationable.
i took 3 days to finish the wheeljack.
from concept sketch to final model.
actually i got few more rest version of him.

it is transformable. but just like the movie concept character, it add a little bit
forms and part once it transform to robot mode. it is to make it more dramatic and visual detail. anyone who collect transformer the movie's toys will spot the different of detailing and proportion.

    @DreamstateIvory :
thanks, it is what i mean.
i want to make galvatron into non-transformable mode at first.
more on organic form at cybertron universe.

    once again, thank you everyone.

Absolutley STUNNING work, galvatron is awesome, and the shelby is even more impressive somehow.

Are you going to color these and make renders/animations?

Can't help but notice you're not answering the questions. Which program are you using?
    Nice stuff though. Very impressive.
