    Arnold Classic Pose

This guy originally started out as my Conan model for a CGTalk Hardcore modeling challenge over a year ago. Recently I wanted to take the model and go all out with him and sculpt him in one of his classic poses. Over the last couple months, I've been working on and off with this guy, when time permitted, to whip him into shape.

Here's a slight progression of the model over a few stages up to where it is now.

I still have lots to get finished with him. I had a couple hours last night which I spent on his chest, back, and shoulders. I think some areas still look a bit too "sculpted" and not organic enough, but I'll work on that next time I get a chance to work more on him.

Yeah, the base mesh was modeled in that basic "T" pose, then I used ZBrush 3's transpose tools to put him in that pose. Then continued to sculpt him further.

He's put on hold for now until I finish a few other projects which came up....

Pretty damn good. I think you have captured the Gestures and anatomy pretty well.

Suggestions: I think third image (single bicep flex) is the best in terms of capturing the fullness of the muscle. I know he is flexing certain areas but in the other pics his pecs look fairly flat. Arnie was known to have really full muscles. I would also take another look at his clavicle (seems unnaturally straight), Ankles (really thin with not very much muscle or skeletal structure defining volume), and his back (not as much volume as some pics suggest http://gymsanity.files.wordpress.com...nold-lats.jpg).

Of course these are just suggestions. Your lighting is different in a few pics. Really good stuff though. I think you should take it all the way.

You make me excited to learn Zbrush - I like it - body builders have a tendency to look sculpted, anyways, so it might not be as bad as you think.

Check the ankle definition, would you? (against a real model)

That's all. Oh, his penii is missing.

I've just started with Zbrush, so I don't feel I have much to offer in the way of crit's, but from what I can tell, there's a bunch of anatomy stuff that could use some work. Not that I'd have anything to offer as to how that would get done, but if you were working in graphite, I could help. As it is, great stuff. Zbrush is an awesome tool.

    bellybutons....

The bellybutton of this character is not correct. It isn't a huge thing, but when it comes to such intricate things as 3D modeling, small defects are tough to justify.

The bellybutton will only ever appear between the abs, generally just above the bottom ab. Plus, the muscle structure of the back is a complex and crazy structure, study is the only way to get it right.

    Zbrush amateur envious.

    good stuff.

    Nice modeling

Does ramping up to become a proficient modeler in Z-Brush take a long time?

I am lucky enough to work at a company that will spend $ on software to keep up on technology. We have been using Freeform at Fisher-Price since 2000, which is intuative to use. The ramping up is pretty fast, but one must come from a traditional sculpting background first.

Looks stunning! Very accurate look-alike. Arni in his prime Very good sculpted muscle definition and very good poses. You catched the feeling of an real bodybuilding contest on stage very well. Thumbs up!
