Jon Hodgson Art Dump Spring 08

    Hey all!

A selection of paintings in a fantasy vein, with a Euromoney cover thrown in for good measure!

The feller with the dragon is a crop of a much wider painting made for a wraparound novel cover, which I wasn't sure about attaching in its full format. I'll see how it looks and maybe upload later.

    Cheers!

All (C)2008 Jon Hodgson, bar the Euromoney cover Russians, which is (C)2008 Euromoney plc

    Thanks!

GRMC: The one piece with historical Russians is the one with the Russian bank logos on the flags. Those are fairly historically accurate (in as far as these things can be, and excluding the bank logos!) Peter the Great era Russians. All the other fellers are pure fantasy with various anachronistic touches pulled from all over. Cheers!

I like the first one the most. Not only does it show the best command of anatomy, color, composition and perspective, it tells a great story as well. The fear in the townsfolk's eyes as heavily armed strangers come into the city come across strongly, and it's not an emotion or situation you see much in fantasy paintings. Costuming is fantastic as well.

    Just all around great!

Great stuff... nice classic feel to them and the muted / limited palette's are wonderful.

lovely atmosphere and i'm liking the d&d style ones, really gives me a nice feeling - retro-ish material but in a quite lovely clean and characterful style.

They're all very impressive but for me the first one is far and away the best. It reminds me of places I've never been and I like that.

Love the dragon too, although I can't help thinking the red and blue don't go together.

And you've got believable horses. Always guaranteed to impress me, that.

I'm like the LOTR image (I'm guessing here) with the viewpoint from above and the great suspicious glances. The first image is also quite strong.

    Thanks again!

    aka_sova - Thanks!

Nathan - Thanks man, your comment was really gratefully received as it makes me feel like I'm communicating some of what I want to do through the work. That first image is the most recent by some weeks, and I'm hoping my work is slowly improving!

    mystery - thanks!

Verithin - Cheers! I'm trying to mix up a few ideas. I love classic fantasy, but I also love the newer twists on things and more contemporary styles too.

Quig - Hey mate! Thanks for dropping in!

    Apocalypse_Rex - thanks!

Baron - wow thanks! Them horses sure is hard work. I was lucky enough to grow up around horses, but I still need to pull out the reference.

SEVANS - thanks! It wasn't meant to be LOTR specifically, but the whole 'Paths of the Dead' thing is all there, right?

I'll add more work as I get it finished! Cheers!
