    Dancing In Hades
    36 X 24
    Oil On Dutch Linen

Haven't posted in awhile. So here it is. I have been working on 5 other 36 X 24's. Those will be ready in the "future".

    Grazie,

    Looks awsome!

Really nice textures on the rocks and those planets!

I'm confused as to what that high key, saturated blue on the right of the image is doing. It has become a focal point do to all the contrast its creating (brightest value and saturation in the image, coolest color in the image.) It's shape is also leading my eye out of the image and off the page.

I don't know if your planning on going back into this piece but if you were, I would think about either toning that blue down, or moving it to frame the figures head/arms to help bring the focus back to her.

Good stuff! can't wait to see the others!

    ...my humble and uneducated opinion.

Thanks Mute... good advice. I thought you might be interested in what a friend wrote. He is a teacher at a California State University...he used to do Heavy Metal covers. Mike Deweese. Here is what he wrote:
This painting's got a great vibe, Lawrence. It's really fun to look at. I'm surprised that these gutsy colors you came up with work as well as they do. It's interesting that you depict Hades with multiple moons (or other heavenly bodies) given that I think of Hades as being underground, not to mention that I never thought of dancing in Hades either. But why not? At first it looks like she's up on her toes to escape the heat, but she looks too peaceful and self-absorbed for that. Despite contrast between subject matter and color, you've managed to integrate the figure and background really successfully with this one. It's got great motion, too; both the dancer and the billowing clouds & smoke in the background are moving. I also wouldn't have thought you'd get away with a moon dead center in the middle, but the composition really works for my taste. You're breaking all the rules but you're coming up with winners!
