    Artist..Building Confidence

Hi, first post, looking for advice.

I'll make this as brief as possible.

I've started a community website. One of my main objectives is to devote a section to local artist and crafters. We are fortunate to have an abundance of (IMO) very talented artist in our area. My intention is to do an "Artist Profile" including a bio and sample of works, in order to bring attention to the artist in my community.

    Problem:
Everyone I've talked to thinks it's a great idea and expressed interest in being included. But I can't get anyone to furnish me any info. Most seem to downplay their talents. Now I'm no connoisseur of art by any stretch of the imagination, but know what looks pleasing to my eyes.

I've suggested to the artist to write up a bio in the third person, as it would be easier. But still, nothing. I'm not articulate enough in describing art work to do this for anyone.

How do I get these artist to realize the benefits of promoting themselves? Ironically, ninety-nine percent of the population in our community are unaware of the talents around us.

I have a few artist profiles on my site. I would post a link but since this is my first post, I didn't know the rules for signature links.

    Tks,
    Burt

hey burt. Well from what i know about artists, they don't flock like sheep. I've heard it described as "herding cats" often. You more have to lure us, then push us towards something.

With that said, perhaps a contest, an event, a give away.. something to bring attention will get them moving. Remember, you can only get a group of cats together by public display of meat.

    Just food for thought.

He could always say something like "job" or "hiring." There would be artists crawling out of the woodwork for that.
