I'm really loving these little still lifes you're doing; they're very elegant and intricate, full of detail and color. It's too bad that in this last one, the white flowers appear washed out and less developed than the rest of it. I'm assuming that's from the photograph and it looks a bit different in real life (since white and black objects tend to photograph badly). Can't wait to see the next one, keep it up!

Thanks guys, but I've got a long way to go to get them exactly how I want.

I managed to scan the last one, which is probably better than the last as it shows the white flowers up.

New one started today. Painted with primary colours & white. Amazing the different types of grey you can make. Some of the colours are wrong for a purpose - glazing. Getting the base right is important as you can't get that richness that glows without lots of layers. Once the base is finished I'll need to wait at least 3 days before glazing and 5 days between each coat. Also ordered some flake white as tit white is not transparent. The base is very thin paint which should remix if I don't leave it too long.

First Life Drawing session of the year. Arrived late and missed the very short poses. All on A2 paper.

I can't believe the model held this pose for 15 minutes.

I like the middle one best. Despite there being some proportion issues you did such a great job establishing the perspective and capturing the interesting shape of her torso.

I also really like your still lifes and have been following your updates even though I don't say a lot! They keep improving especially color wise.

LOVE the flowers, its really pretty in the black frame

i thought maybe darkening the bit in the middle between the stems balanced it, see what you think. might be a nice spot for a ladybird or a moth or something..

Velocity, you're probably right. There was a white cloth behind with a blue tinge and I just painted what I saw. I still need to apply some artistic licence to improve my pictures.

Kate, I like to get the model's face recognisable and am not bad at it, I think. That's my favourite bit too.

LP, I'd be interested to know what your mother thinks of your stuff.

Small update on the still life.

N00b, there's a lot of white as I need to glaze over it later. The blue strand in the middle is actually going to be red, but I need to get the darkest bits going first and yet there are parts of brilliance and then there is a dull shine. I'm still experimenting with oils and layers. Having patience with this type of painting is hard.

    Hello Black Spot.

Your oil paintings are nice. They have a personal charm to them. I think some of the objects/flowers in your recent paintings needs some reflected colors from their surroundings. It helps to unify the paintings.

There will be a lot more reflected colours as the whole thing comes together. I'm only working with 4 colours and 2 whites, so it should work in my favour.

Small update. Nothing is finished, but I'm starting to work the bits up to the same place before playing around. At least I managed to photograph it daylight - just. It does make a difference.

Your figure drawings look great. You really captured the gesture and proportions for those very complex poses.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what materials are you using on them? Conte? Charcoal?

Charcoal & chalk - the cheap stuff. The only trouble is that it rubs off too easyily compared to the charcoal pencils I was using a few pages back, but I didn't have them with me this time and used what was supplied. The chalk is kids grade - I'd prefer my conte pastels, but again I couldn't find them in time. Tools are tools and using what you're not used to can sometimes be fine.

I always like sketchbooks where the artist has been dedicated at it and has so much content and progress. It's like a journey going through the pages. Very nice stuff

Lovely flowers. Really like the subtle shading in the blue papered figure studies and the forms have been captured nicely.

    Hello Black Spot
Lovely and sparkly jewelry, and I really like your figure drawings. Do you do any quick gestures too ?
The chest and head part in this one are incredible, very lively!

nice sketchbook you got here, I like the progression I can see throughout, shows all those studies are coming in very handy. You have a good sense of form, however sometimes there are issues that can be seen, especially in some of the portraits you have done, but it's not that big of an issue, nothing more studies can't fix. Also I would say on some of your paintings you might want to put a slight bit more emphasis on your darkest tones and the highlights, they will help to bring out the forms even more. Other than that, great stuff. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing more.

To live is to create, to create is to live. Without art and music, I do not know how I would get by in my day to day life.
