    How can you colourize black and white inkwork?

    OK i want to colourise Black and white inkwork so it matches more with a painting im doing.

    So thats colour the Black inking without touching anything else.

    (this may be as much a PS thing as Painter)

    It's very simple in Photoshop:

    1) Select the document or layer that contains your line work. If it's on a multiply layer set the layer mode to normal - you need the document to be a black and white image.

    2) Select all and copy the image to the clipboard

    3) Press q to enter into Quickmask mode

    4) Paste the image

    5) Invert the image (press Control + i)

    6) Press q again to exit Quickmask

    7) Press Control + j to copy the black lines to a new layer

    You now have a layer with all the black but none of the white. If you lock the layer transparency you can paint over the black lines without changing their shape.

    Right it all worked, but when i go to paint the layer it still painted over the whole layer or do i have to paint it while its selected?

    OK i worked it out,

    you have to colour it between points 6 and 7 while its selected.

    No - just read the last line in my post again: "If you lock the layer transparency you can paint over the black lines without changing their shape."

    You can lock the layer transparency by clicking the little square icon at the top of the layers palette:
