Importance of Video Games to a Concept Artist

This is something that has been bothering me for a long time now. Years ago I decided I wanted to become a concept artist for video games and movies. This derived not so much from a passion for gaming and movies so much as an application of artistic ability. Granted, I do enjoy playing video games and watching movies and love fantasy in general but I don't always enjoy drawing things that are "concept art".

My question then is: Do you think you should pursue a career in concept art (for video games) even if you aren't shit-crazy about playing video games?

I can draw concepts for ever but it is mostly the CONCEPT itself that is what interests me, not the final product. What do you think?

People that are shit crazed about computer games are probably going to end up playing them, not doing them.

I would imagine it would be useful to have a more objective point of view.

    I would agree with Wasker.
If you were as crazy about video games as the people playing them, you wouldn't have time to be a good concept artist.
