    chrisc's escapist WIP & sketchbook

I'm a comic book colorist who likes to draw and paint stuff other than comics from time to time. I think a sketchbook here will inspire me to draw & paint more. I'm hoping to improve and build a portfolio that will get me more illustration work.

I'll post some work from the last year or so to get things rolling. Most are finished pieces, some need fixing, and some are just for fun.

    thanks for lookin.

sorry for the first big dump.

Thanks guys! I appreciate your dropping by and your comments. I'll post a few more fairly recent pieces. I'm kinda swamped with some deadlines, otherwise I'm dying to paint more non-comic book stuff.

    some recent stuff.

    A Human Torch quickie.

A WIP for a local zine on the topic of "hate." It will be printed in b/w.

Another finished (?) piece for the same zine on 'hate.' There's a thin line betwixt love 'n hate.

Thanks! I like doing that style of illustration even though it's not as easy for me as the cartoony stuff.

A couple of my latest. The illo & design for the Convention advert. is all me. Design is not my strength, though. The ad will be in an issue of Star Wars Insider magazine.

The other piece is for an Illustration Friday Challenge, on the theme of worry.

I love the style, it sort of reminds me of those drawings you see in things like readers digest. take that how you will.

Hey, thanks! I suppose I'll take that as a compliment, tho I haven't seen a Readers Digest recently.

    cheers.

The guy kissing the cell phone is my favorite, you have a lot of great stuff.

    Keep it up!

    Poison Ivy

Been very busy the last month. But, I found some time to finish a step-by-step illustration for my other sketchbook at Gutterzombie.com.

Poison Ivy, not the Uma Thurman version.

I wouldn't normally use photo ref for this type of illustration, but I did for this one. It's painted in Photoshop with default brushes.

Thanks, HFix & Clessy! I really enjoy doing the stylized, cartoony illustrations. I need to mentally switch gears though, since most of the time I'm ears deep in comic book art.

Here are a couple of quick portraits I did the other night.
