eclip-se-Thanks very much mate, thats encouraging but i am not that good yet. Keep up and you will soon achieve what you want

Ok i want your help at this moment. I am dissapointed by my work and i feel its very broken so i have no idea how to compile it in my portfolio site or anywhere else. I have posted some sheets with most of the personal works [+some older] and i have them numbered so we can point out certain images. Now i am already thinking of how to present them. Should i have categories? [do these have a consistency or do they feel right in being into a category?] or should i make an overall Personal Gallery and Work gallery and put stuff in there?
Also feel free to suggest what to include and what not to. Also i would be having a selection of the best works to be appearing in the home page, so additionaly pointing out which images should have a place in the pieces to be definitely be seen, would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance, i will appreciate any opinions because i am a little lost and at least i want to make the best i can out of these.

Thanks for supporting mates!!!! Lets all keep up !!!

[edit:something is happening and i dont see the other images]

oh i just read your blurb in your latest post too, as far as portfolios, you want to cater your portfolio to the job in which you would most want to work in. for instance, if you would want to become a character artist, load it with character designs (only your best and newest) if you want a job doing landscapes, cater it that way, by loading it with your best landscapes. if you want to be more of a generalised artist, or if you cant decide which job you would be most interested in, then put a multitude of different subjects in it. also, you need to grab their attention right off the bat (most of the people who look through portfolios have to look through TONS of them, so get their attention right off the bat!) i try to have mine set up so that my second best piece is first, then i have them ordered from my weakest piece to my strongest. (end on a good one). anyhoo, hope that helps at all!

    well well
seeing all those awful stuff is breathtaking !

though all your stuff are pretty good. be sure to include only the best.
If i was you, i would use categories to show a professional portfolio (but no need to name them, just throw 5 characters followed by 5 enviro ...)
usually , directors are convinced after seeing like 8 pieces (the rest is curiosity or looking for a specific subject)

i'm always told to show only the artwork that will convince for the position you're looking for. if u looking for enviro position, just show many enviro and a bit of chara

here s the pieces that strike me:
    PAGE1 :7.13.2
    PAGE2:2.6.14.2029.28.21
    PAGE3:10.14.11.19.24.20
    PAGE4:1.5.15.
    PAGE5:5.6.3.10.12.16.17.19.24(TOO MUCH)

i could have included many other since they are good

good luck for the next step

hope you'll share your future experience with us.

Hey mate ! Since I have no experience in that domain I can be totally wrong but I think you should select aproximately 6 pieces of different categories for the portfolio you will show (What come to my mind after watching your work is "character/environment/conceptual". Since your work is really good it is hard to choose, I tried to put those which are at the same time my favourite and which give a wide enough vision of your work.. here it is

    Name: Kostas Folio example.jpg
Views: 1269
Size: 494.9 KB

Then I think You should put a large part (not to say maybe this whole compilation you did) on your website, I don't think you need to classify it by "characters/environments etc.." maybe you could do like Peleng (http://www.peleng.byethost12.com/) or Jaime Jones (http://www.artpad.org/) etc... I think classifying by period could be cool since you got a large type range of work and you are very productive... But you could just use "conceptual/illustration" categories too maybe..

Well I hope this helped you a bit, keep your great work up and good luck mate !

Ahh...so many awesome images. So many that I had forgotten about, and there
are so many others you could have included.

I would definitely absolutely break them down by category. Myself, from my
impression of your work, I would primarily break them down into an illustration
category and a concept category. Or have illustration be a category alongside
    of characters, creatures, and environments.

As far as 'illustrations' I mean images that just have that overwhelming sense
of action and story, more than just describing a person, place, or thing.

The only thing I would maybe not include is the race car images, they seem
a bit rough and out of place. You can always add more vehicle stuff later,
if you want to beef up in that area.

The person that is going to hire you (or not) is the person that has a specific
project and a specific role within that project in mind, and when they see your
work, they will say "THIS is the guy we need" so try to imagine what that project
and that role would be and build a gallery around that.

You should select images that are from a project, personal or professional,
or at least look like they *could* be part of a project.

Definitely I would include any drawings or process images.

The art director or whoever is going to make their decision within seeing the
first three or so images. If they look any further than that they are just
trying to make sure the first couple of images weren't just a fluke.

If I had to describe the perfect job that fits your body of work, myself I
would say "in-game illustrations or keyframe illustrations or environment
designs for a dark fantasy setting" Guild Wars also comes to mind as a very
similar body of work. Also fantasy book covers.

Heh, sorry, I would be more specific but honestly like 80% of your work is
good enough to get you hired by SOMEBODY man, just get it out there.

I think you should keep it simple with the presentation, like Izzual categorized them. You've got alot of powerful work. Just select the ones that to you present your different capabilities best. Different moods and colors and something you work with alot, so for me, seeing this side of you're work would be most interesting. You could categorize things in their basics, and if you are going to add some text to your images, I dont think you need more than one adjective, which could be amibigious and not too analytical.

stuff like mystical, soft, friendly, hateful, silent - Not saying too much and still guiding thoughts in the right direction and showing you work with intent..

Mates i am back, however i will probably be out again.
Everything went great at the workshop and was a totally fun and awesome time. It was great meeting people there and sharing stuff and hanging out toghether!!!!! Thanks for the amazing time mates.

I got great response on my work and so i am extremely happy and somehow relaxed. In the end i placed some overall categories, like concept art/sketches illustration process work/tutorial and loaded with lots of stuff and in bad arrangement. The people viewing the portfolio dont seem to need to see lots of stuff, organised or whatever. It depends on each individual. Some people will look if you can do design and sketches, some other will check if you can do illustration, and some other will look to see if you have anything that goes away from the typical depiction of subjects, like typical orc style etc. It seems that the whole process is more freestyle, however if you are to send to a company its better to tailor a portfolio just for the exact position.

I have to prepare some things here and there and soon i hope to stabilize and come back sharing and posting.

Thanks very much for the continuous support!!!!!!!!! Lets all keep up!!!!

You sexy, highly inspiring, hardworking and gorgeously insane, with some extra spice on top of it all, bastard! That food of thought is very helpful. Thanks! Remember what Manley told you about color and pushing a piece to finish. Sooner or later you'll have to face that dragon and defeat it too It was nice spending some days in London with you mate! very inspiring and I learned a lot. Thank you for that.

I've actually started drawing again! something has changed. I find myself WANTING to sketch when I have some free time. I now bring my sketchbook everywhere and doodle when I'm on the train or have a moment for myself. It's such a refreshing feeling. Somehow I had just forgotten it could be like this. Hopefully it'll stay for a while. Probably won't update my sb anytime soon, but wanted to let you know I'm keeping it up too. Keep up the good vibes Kostas!

Ah yes you're back from the workshop! You gotta write up about it somewhere, I wanna know what it was like and what you learned. Great stuff as always in the last post, your values are always so solid! One nitpick is to maybe be a bit more careful/deliberate with your markmaking with the marker. A lot of the shapes and marks seems sloppy and haphazard (or maybe just rushed a bit)...

That "Good night speed" looks so simple, but so solid. It's loose, but it works and I don't feel like putting more detail there would make it better. That's how you now you've succeeded.

It's so hard to critique your work, because you're understanding of the fundamentals is so good, pretty much everything you put out looks great. If I'd have to say something, maybe your colors look a bit weaker than your other stuff and maybe it's because you don't paing straight to color. I dunno and I might be wrong, but I wanted to say something a little more constructive.

    Anyway, keep up the greatness.

Izzual-Yo izzz thanks very much mate !!!!
Baconstrap-haahaah lol mate, thanks very much !!!
dharry-Thanks very much mate , yep values are very very important. Ok i already told you, so hope you are having fun heheeh
Papu-Thankies very much mate , i am currently trying to improve this aspect, i am workin directly with color mostly, and that good night speed was direct color. Its not that much the greyscale leaving its mark now, but the fact that i forgot to use color as dimension;, strange i finally remembered something i have been doing before going to army. I will try to make better ones

Ok here some things. The sci fi is from the livestream yesterday.
Thanks for supporting !!!lets all keep up!!!
