    Hello everyone.

I'm a student, so I can't afford painter. So what I'm wondering is; what is the best free art-software?

I don't know about "best" because that will depend personally on which one you like better. But the only free art softwares I came across are GIMP and Paint.Net. About Paint.Net, so far it supports Tablet PCs but no wacom or digital tablets yet. There is also Artrage which is more focused on simulating physical media such as oils, markers, etc. It is not free, but relatively cheap, around $25. Just try them out, since they are free and see which one you like the most.

I've used Artweaver for a while, it's not always stable but is an excellent substitute to Painter's older versions (up to 9).
Can't say GIMP's my cuppa tea.. but you get what you pay for
OpenCanvas is a lot of fun, free in older versions and can get you some decent results. Just save frequently.
    Artrage is great too!

Thanks everyone. I aprechiate the help
I baught my wacom about a year and a half ago, so I have Painter Essentials, wich would suit me fine wasn't it for the fact they took away "layers". That's just rude.
