Thread: Jamie Romoser's Sketchbook

Hey Jamie, and thanks again for stopping by.
That still life is coming along nicely, man. I'll still try to give some hopefully constructive critisism: Right now the colors look a bit dull. I'd say you should try to bring more hue and temperature variation to the picture to help the shadows separate from the lights better. Also pay close attention to the values in the shadows, so that they don't cross into the value range of the light.
Of course I don't know what kind of lighting conditions you have there, but that's how it seems to me. Getting your still lifes and colors to really look 'alive' and real is pretty damn hard, but that's why we should practise every day.
Anyways, keep on studying, man. The dedication of the Crimson Daggers gang will eventually be rewarded.

gabs-Awsome bridgemen and loomis are crazy artists I have alot of trouble studying loomis everythings just to perfect. Bridgemen on the other hand I really enjoy studying his work its so abstract makes your mind think of shapes and whatnot.
ismo-Hey sup man thanks for the crit i totally agree with you on the colors they are dull. With my lighting conditions i made a still life box thing? I have a peice of cardboard with a hole cut on top with the light shining down. Its pretty neat you can have a peice of paper and adjust light settings. Ill have to do some studys about color there playing tricks on me.
Jabo-thanks for droping by, yeah I gotta remeber to paint just to have fun and paint. Sometimes i get so caught up with studys and stuff I miss out on the point of why I started painting in the first place.
Railey h studys these took him 5 minutes... they took me forever I tried my best to do the whole less is more thing. I did so many undos in this study.

You got some great stuff going on here man. I like your designs (especially the armor) and the gasmask piece is looking really good. I want to see it finished!
Keep it up!

Krato-haha yeah his legs are way funky, tried to fix them up a bit thanks for the crit though I get blinded sometimes.
Spaggen-hey thanks man I think my armors really cheezy if it were real life it wouldnt be funtinal at all. I gotta study more pics of armor.
jackpot_anjr90-no were as good as i want to be haha. Hmm darksiders I havnt heard of it I checked out the site and one of the characters looks alot like the character I drew. thanks for stopin by man.
DeKal-Thanks dude! that means alot comin from you, yeah your right I deffinatly need to pay more attention to proportion when im working. I always tend to dive into rendering to fast ill try to chill out a bit and draw things out more.
worked on this painting a bit more. Im gona try and tell more of a story in my paintings instead of just random people standing around. I need to learn how to balence things out and work on my brush economy.
