Hey Jamie, can I use that pic of you and your bike for a sketch? Also, I think that you really did capture the material of the pitcher in the still life, if that makes any sense. I'm not good with words.

Thanks for commenting my sketchbook man!

You're doing some good stuff! I especially like the 3 guys at the top of #610, and also the portrait of your girlfriend. Be careful with that one though, it looks like you might be cutting off the back of her head or something a bit

I'de definitely break out some strategic hard edges on that jug study too, especially where it meets the table, it's looking a bit fuzzy right now

Hey, I'm not sure what you did to the portrait, but it improved quite a bit somehow. One thing, I think the eyes could be placed closer together, not by much though.
Have fun with your next studies!

Hey man, I haven't been around in a while, sorry about that.
You've been improving a lot in the meantime! I love that you keep refining things and don't stop until you've learned all you can from a piece.
I really enjoyed your figure studies at #610.
Don't feel discouraged! The moustache guy isn't coming out bad at all, listen to the advice of the guys who posted before me - you're on the right track.

    Much love!

Krato-thanks krato portraits are danm hard haha, will try and fix up those edges in the still life luckly still have it set up

Bel696-True yeah in the pic hes doing some weird wink so it was pretty hard to get right, will try and go back on it. But yeah im asian haha korean
thanks for droping by my sketchbook you have some nice work

Dy.laneA-ello! thanks for the encouragment ^^

GoGoJojo-Fersher you can use that pic for a sketch thatd be way cool, thanks for stopin by

JailHouseRock2-Matt!!! sup dude thanks yeah its all about studies used to think copying stuff was bad but just builds the visual libary up. have a good one man will stop by your sketchbook

Diarum-haha thanks I think my portraits are pretty crappy though cant even get them to look like the actual person, have alot of studying to get to

Yuki_slider-Thank you Yuki you always have some wise words man. Simplicity is hard though im still not good at it, Trying to find the balence in between simplicity and detail/focal points. But not all day probly draw and paint a good 3-6 hours everyday

PaintMyBrain-thx will keep an eye out for your updates

Crush-haha thanks for returning the favor but yeah those characters were pretty fun, and i agree with you on the portrait guess i was just kinda expirementing with hard edges and whatnot will keep that in mind for future works though. So true about the jug though the edges on the bottom bloow will try and focus more on the bottom thanks for the crits man

Kungfoowiz-thanks, yeah just did a black & white adjustment layer saw how messed up the values were so just kinda turned into a value study. Been having trouble with the spacing and placing of the eyes will try and think more thoughly about what im doing before i lay paint down

Ariel9-hi Ariel no worrys about not being around my sketchbooks not gona be disapearing anytime soon hehe. But yeah im really trying to push my peices to the next level trying to solve the problems within them, it takes along time but i think its worth it in the end

    Hey man good work

On the knight the rendering looks a bit odd to me, maybe because its a wip? anyway sharpen those edges and blend the strokes to get a much more sharper look
On the gladiator master study (?) it seems like your colors got a bit muddy and the lightsource seems not clearly defined.

keep up you're going great esp on the flowers piece

wow man your doing so well! so much improvement!

that flower painting is badass. im liking the gladiator one too. that black and white knight guy with the axe seems a little off though. i like the design but his legs are too short and his arms dont feel right.

    keep it up buddy!

Hey, agreed with some of the others, the Necromancer does seem slightly out of proportion.
You could add a bit more of a neck, and lengthen the upper torso a bit. The legs could be lengthened somewhat too.

The Gladiator arena doesn't seem to have much for the eye to focus on, there isn't much detail in the painting itself, other than the basic shapes. Also the light isn't too strong in any one place.
Take a risk and begin lighting something with a harsher light to see if you like it.

    fuck yes Jamie. Great work.

on that troll guy, I think his right ear is going back too far and his right eye is too small and shaped oddly. also, his hood comes to too sharp a point and should be underlit by the joint/cig.

those studies are mindlowing man. keep it up!

yea with the troll the far eye is too far or too small, remember the mass of the nose can block off parts of the eye, it doesnt need to be a full eye like what you have there

Hey, not bad, I think the eyes are only just slightly out in your studies, they feel a touch too far apart, but not by much. They are good though.

The troll suffers from foreshortalitus. =) Keep in mind your form at all times, I know it's difficult, we like to flatten things out, but maybe for next time.

Nice studies of light, you could expand upon these to larger areas, not too large mind.

I find interesting those "Railey H" studies but... what are they about? You are referring to a method, a book?

Thank you, and keep up the good work!

Looking good man I'm liking the face and figure studies! The recent still life paintings are also looking nice. One crit I have is that the shapes themselves are a bit wonky. Like the bottom of the pitcher isn't quite round and some of what should be straight lines aren't quite straight. I have the same problem myself sometimes and I find that doing some quick construction using basic shapes/forms will help a lot. Keep up the good work, you've definitely improved since I last commented

Good stuff man, i like the studies
The troll however doesn't meet up to your usual standards. It looks as if you drew him part full front and part profilish. The eyes are too far apart. The left one is way too small, the right one is too far to the right. It should be slightly to the right of the nostrils. The ear looks as if it was pasted on the head, and the nost might need a more interesting shape. Also careful with the cig, looks pasted on the mouth.
Hope this helps and don't take it badly

great studies mate!!!In the master study the black shadows and some tonal graduations from black to the color give the muddy effect.Look deeper in the master work and do a color picking in the shadow just for research. And actually search a little the piece about the color selections and such.
Keep working on the necromancer, he needs to become more solid.
The next studies are very nice, and i agree about the eye of the troll.Make better measurements cause i understand why it became that smaller .I always did it and i often do it again. We have to keep improving our proportions
    Keep going

Looking good Omerta , your still life studies pay off ,great that you simplify now
I think on anatomy and on your figure studies , you could try when you draw from reference to also draw the construction inside , like where the jawbones ,cheekbones etc. is, so you can also see your failures faster ....
    Keep it up , Cera

Cool man . For the first Railey studie, I think you should try to block in the masses a bit more, try to define some more planes with the shadows?
The goblin has some issues too, but that's mentioned before , other then that, cool update .
