John Berkey passed away last night, after a long illness. I wish I had the eloquence to say say what Berkey has done for SF art as a genre and illustration as whole. Taking a look at these boards, and others like them, it is clear that he is a direct influence on what is going on right this minute with today's young artists...It's as if the art world has just caught up with him.

John Berkey has been a favorite of mine since before I even knew who he was. His cover of "Our Universe" captivated me beyond words as a child. Its kinda weird, but over the last couple of days I've been going around the web making a folder of his paintings for study...that kinda freaks me out alittle.

Sad day indeed.
One of my all time favorite books. I used to stare at that thing for hours at my grandparents house.John Berkey has been a favorite of mine since before I even knew who he was. His cover of "Our Universe" captivated me beyond words as a child.

I missed this thread
I think I'd rather I hadn't have seen it. Too many icons falling away lately, it seems.
loved his work...
i remember getting some big book that was an atlas to space, it had his work on the cover i believe and really fueled a ton of my youth's imagination.
