JellevdVegt For sure, man. I just really enjoy my necked figures, always room to improve that. xD I've been trying to focus on applying my figure drawing to things like character or creature design. As well as other things like industrial design. I promise to post more of my struggling in those fields.
Ryanoir Oh, you.
Krato U2 BROTHER. As for the cow comment, I meant errors that doing a bit of thumbnail or plain old ideation type planning could help, like composition, or the actual environment this design's placed in.
Kidd Pleased to meet you too! Looking forward to pchatting with you again sometime in the future.
Brashen That sounds like a good MO. I"ll try doing that from now on.

The lighting looks quite realistic, even though it's made of weird shades (purple-gold-blue, that isn't common). A bit rough but it looks reely fine. Any reference used for the lighting/backlighting/reflexions ?
October 28th, 2010 #1784
thanks--i didn't use any ref for the materials, though it's a good idea for me to when i do my next color experiment. i'm really happy with how her face turned out, it's almost like a thin coat of glitter nail polish was applied ot her cheek, something i'd like to do deliberately in a future design once i figure out how the fuck i did that. D<
i agree--her body especially could use a little more refinement for me to be okay with it but i'll probably just leave it be and move on to my next piece.

i don't always like to post my fucking around on paper but today i've just been so thrilled with texture that i have to post these terrible scans to show you guys ;_;
NO SERIOUSLY GUYS DO YOU SEE THE LITTLE CRACKLING AND GOUACHE CRATERS?! ;_;
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL.
i wanna make a comeback to trad so bad. but it seems like. iono. time consuming, so generally not a good idea for concept work? pixar blows that statement out of the water with their beautiful pastel pieces for their animations, and disney with all of that gouache goodness but i have trouble seeing that kind of stuff anywhere else.

Àplats of red rimmed in thin black lines, drowned in a big white space... that's beautiful, you're welcome to do more of these !

Very nice stuff. And a bit freaky too. Which is good.
When I think about guys who do traditional concept art (well, the only one I can think of at the top of my head is Yoshitaka Amano...) are people who have an established traditional style allready. Maybe if you get into a company and make a name for yourself and then threaten to eat all their lunch boxes if they don't let you do traditional concepts... I dunno ^^
