My wrists aren't letting up so when my ballpoint ran out I bought a gel pen that's meant to write with really light pen pressure. It's a papermate inkjoy (annoying flash site alert) and I guess the idea is that their ink is low viscosity or something so it just kinda pisses out onto the paper without much effort
Anyway it's a good buy I think if you have trouble with heavy pen pressure cramping your style, I recommend it

    Misty Feather thank

A few days after I got back home from England, I realized I had just enough money (and barely enough time) to enroll at a community college figure drawing workshop. It began first thing every Saturday morning and I knew I had to take it on.
I hadn't done any figure drawing from life in about a year so I was veeeerry rusty. We started off slow with 1-minute gestures--

Before escalating all hardcore-like (at the other students' requests) to 10-minute poses. I didn't expect my first one to hold up well, so I lumped it with the gesture page (also there was just enough room and I'm a cheap-ass, even with newsprint).
After that, it was 20-minute poses for the remainder of the workshop. In an attempt to not get held up in details, I broke the time up into smaller drawings so I can have more chances to, well, mess up. And mess up I did.

During one of our breaks someone came in with a big box of old books from another class and allowed us to have at 'em. WOO Definitely gonna use the photo sequence book as a resource for figure warm-ups at home. The Bridgman book I'll probably just keep around for a future friend who might need the valuable art-education. 8D

Overall I was happy with this first session. I managed to stay patient with myself (which students like me aren't always inclined to do), and tried to find solutions for myself when I saw things weren't going at a rate I felt I needed.
Like I said on twitter, I notice I'm much more grounded in art when my practice is punctuated with figure drawing sessions, so I'm looking forward to getting back up to speed again with my work~

Some more struggling studying with figures. Again, I didn't focus on just one drawing per pose. It was a challenge to try to see bigger shapes/gestures again, and I look forward to practicing a bit more this coming Saturday.

Just as sort of a bonus(????????)
the quoted post above was my post after I made my first 20-minute pose, which was actually of the same model I drew tonight!
    Her name's Lynette and she's 110% a sweetheart

I think I drew a lot more confidently then than I do now, but there's at least some improvement yay

Wow, Lynette, Lynette, a gorgeous girl, a gorgeous name, and a gorgeous drawing. I'd say massive improvement. The shading is a bit muddy, but that'll come in time. Her face looks really cool though. Like something from Butkus' sketchbook, almost.

Also-- Awesome figures from earlier, too.

Continue da art rampage. (And lemme know if I comment too much )

damn, I really need to stop by more often, I really love your lines. line confidence that glows through, either confidence or apathy, I cant tell... not to say that you don't put your all into your sketches, just you have a great balance of dedicated study, and whimsical, like care free line movement. I sound like such a turd right now don't I? its cool, ive had some beers. laters!
