My external assignment was to produce a painting somehow relating to Art in Music. We first drew multiple sketches from different angles from a still life setup and sampled other mediums such as acrylics and oil pastels; since I was aiming for a Cubist approach to art in music, I took sketches from multiple angles and then from photos of the still life setup (consisting of a mannequin as the main focus and instruments lining the setup around her in different positions), and worked out a rough digital image for my piece. I was dissapointed when I realised I couldn't do a portrait of Benny Hill, holding a saxophone...
Once I had done the rough digital piece, I sampled synthetic cubism both from Juan Gris' guitar-table and Picasso's 'Man with a Pipe' (which is a brilliant painting), and applying these styles to a test painting of my digital sketch. Then came the canvas, and it took approximately 4 days (or 18 hours, I needed sleep and other schooling stuff too) from start to finish. I hope you like it; criticism is very welcome.
This first piece is the digital sketch.
And this is my final piece.
