Antonio Lopez-Garcia at Boston Museum of Fine Arts

I saw a great show at the MFA in Boston, if you're in the area you should check it out.

50 or more I'd say, drawings, paintings, and some sculpture.

I've realllllllllllly been looking forward to this one, have to get up there soon! Anyone who likes paintings should do the same. Seriously, Antonio Lopez Garcia is criminally underknown in the US

No doubt! It's his first solo show in the US. If you can't make it the catalog comes out on Amazon in May.

Post Better than Vermeer, Rembrandt, Velasquez

Antonio Lopez Garcia is a traditional artist unafraid to speak of beauty and create work that essentially is concerned with a traditional sense of aesthetics. He did have a very large one person show at Marlborough in NYC about 18 years ago. The quality of his work is on a par with that of the all time greats. Incidentally the two or three pieces that the Boston Museum acquired a couple of years ago are among his lesser works as the two doctors who put together that generally poor collection were shopping for bargains. I am pretty sure that they bought them in NYC at Staempfli gallery about thirty years ago.
I hope that the current show inludes the painting with the pressed piece of glazing which if I remember correctly was a part of a shower partition. The aesthetic painting in that glazing almost competes with Velasquez's silver brocades in the dresses of the princesses.
