    Uglydude's Sketchbooks

    Hello everyone

I have been reading this forum for a while now, and have been astounded by the amazing artwork, as well as the helpful/useful advices.

However, only now do I have the courage to start a sketchbook. I aim for a career in as a concept artist. I know I still need a lot of improvement, including digitial painting, environment, composition...and many other.

I'm looking forward to any advice you have, as well as some mentoring if you got time.

    Many thanks

I have been doing some sketches and felt that I'm pretty weak with portraits, so I thought I do some practises. Tips and criticism are welcome.

    Yay free nudity for kids!

I like the skin tone of the second nude study.

A few more quick sketches in the morning. Still need to work on drawing face, the face on the figures are really poor. Hope if anyone got sometime to mentor me on drawing face. Many thanks

Grafguy - Thank you for you comment, you are right the chest is too blurry, I used layer of the blurred image and masking it over the original, I guess I put too much blur on it, this is the original, without blur.

Still on a quest to improve my face drawing skill, I have seen many great artists on Conceptart.org, create characters with such great facial expression with little marks.

Quick thumbnails sketches of portraits. If anybody have any criticisms, tips or advices, I am most welcome.

Thank you for taking the time to look through my sketches

Also can anybody tell if it is possible to edit the 'title' of my thread, and if so how? Many thanks

Hi UGLYDUDE! I like your drawings a lot especially the way you draw them... some of them are looking almost realistic! I'm impressed by your faces and I have one advice for the last picture, you should add some flakes on that dragon and I think the dragons are a little bit glossy also the clifs behind! You should and more! Keep up the good work I wish you luck!

Thank you for your kind comments and help, I will try my best to keep this update.

clanlord - You are right, by me trying to put a glow on the dragon, he end up looking a bit glossy, I also did put scales/flakes on him but I think the opacity might be too low to see. I will have another go on it later on.

Again many thanks your taking your time to view and comments on my work, much appreciated

Hey, nice stuff you got here going.
I see all your sketches are done digitally, may i ask why? I believe you should never let pencils behind, there's still so much more to explore within that field.
Also, keep doing plenty of portrait sketches [laying down just some basic shades if you will] and plenty of poses, they will really be helpful.
    Cheers

Just a few quick sketches in the morning to start thing up

_^SlayeR^_: Thank you very much for your comment and advise, I really appreciate it . Regarding the digital medium, it is because I only just start using Wacom tablet, and felt that I'm don't have enough control or understanding of various affect Photoshop brushes, so I'll try to practice on it a much as possible. I'm still a believer in traditional mediums as well, and enjoy using paper and canvas. I just got a new sketch book, so will post some image as soon as I get my scanner sorted.

I know I still have much to learn and still seeking a mentor. There are many areas I need improving but the first part I like to focus on is character concept art. If anybody have a little bit of spare time to mentor me, I would much appreciate.

Sorry for a lack of updates this week. This painting took a little bit more time than I thought, still not fully happy with it, but I think I have to let it goes and more on.

    Criticisms are welcome.

Just found these old sketches from last year, these were all done with good old fashion pencil, pen and paper.
