How do you achieve the oily look in your paintings? Are you using Painter?

Great sketchbook. A nice solid mixture of different subjects. I saved a few images for study, hope you don't mind.

    Hi everyone! \o/

Kristo Novo, PieMonster, Kidult, Two Listen, D@niel, Revenebo, Astrocrud, Selfu, Mischeviouslittleelf, Darkos, GaussianRaider, Noodledoodle, JustinBeckett, Chupacabra, Okmer, Voxmortem, Jakers, Sandeepbarot, Frank Gressie, MeTaL-Mike, Nubb, Maeshanne, Lyno: Thank you all guys/gals for looking and dropping a comment.
Clochette: Haha t'appelle ca agressif toi?
Jason Rainville: You're welcome and thank you for looking!
    Iansnyder: Great! thank you.
Kelly X: God are these replies late but er... happy summer holiday!
DanielC: HONTE sur toi pour avoir ecrit banane avec 2 "n"! :o
Bill: Thanks, thanks and... happy summer holiday?
Daryl: Thanks and no, not really for that one. But i do a few copies now and again and i guess the info somehow makes its way into my personal stuff.
Hideyoshi: Thanks. Yes indeed thats difficult however speedpainting too much has its downsides too, one will tend to rush the drawing (scale especially) and i find that making longer paintings with more careful drawing somehow helps making better drawn quick stuff after. Is this making any sense?
Slyve: Wow how many people can speak french around here exactly? Merci!
Killerzombie: I dunno, as i dont update very often now, any improvement might not be as fast as it seems. But thanks for the nice words.
Jurffy: Thanks but no, im using Photoshop. About the "oily" look sometimes its more in the brush handling by the artist than the software but cool brushes sure help too. Speaking of which, i think that PS has an incredible brush engine. When people say or seem to think "painterly=painter" i just assume they never really gave photoshop much time. I dont blame them, i never really gave painter much either.
Jacfat: Haha thanks for the lolz!
Sepulverture: Thanks and no, of course i dont mind but dude dont save sh*t from me, pm me and ill give you plenty of artists names to save from and copy, much more worthy of your time.

Long time no updates, indeed. No particular reason though... a bit of procrastination maybe.

Anyway, below is this painting that i wanted to rework before sending to Imagine FX.

A sketch from life, didnt do well but neither did she. Non-professional sitters are... non-professional. Nah never blame the sitter (especially if she lives with you and might read the post)

I'm a bit angry at myself for this painting because i got quickly caught up by details, lighting and other things and ended up with a weak pose. I should have stuck to the pose in this sketch (of mine). I thought i knew better than that... but for the record; a good half of this stuff is 2-3 months old so i'd sure do some things differently now.

useless copy of some movie still.

The only interesting thing about this one is that it was 100% painted with the smudge tool (with the finger painting option on). I like its way of painting the patches of color one into another rather than one on top of the other. Cool tool but doesnt make me draw better

My not completely finished entry for the female sith lord CHOW (yeah pretty old), didnt post in the finals thread but was fun to do. I know, i know; a lightsaber is not supposed to make the victim bleed or something like that but whatever i dont care, the blood pool allowed for an interesting reflection and i painted it just for that.
No comment on her anatomy/proportions, please...

Yep a tree and a big cloud again but this was for a client so i had little control over the subject. He wanted something realistic or at least not too "symbolist", it shouldnt look like the tree is magic or something so i tried to do just that.

    Finished!

    Thanks for looking.

aaah finally! Love everything, thanks for posting again!!
The material and lighting exporations on the knight are awesome! And I can definitely tell that these kind of excercises help improve a lot (also referring to your reply which I fully agree to)!

That smudge tool painting looks pretty interesting, I should try it myself.
About the sith pic.. it's really nitpicking but iirc lightsabers turn off automatically when they hit the ground. Just saying .
