I'm a lil bit confused... this tdome sounds like a a character design contest and is focused on that, now when i see this:

"Entrees must be full color illustrations emphasising the character design."

... I'm confused by the full color illustration part, does that mean the characters need to be placed in an environment? or does this just mean the characters need to be in full color? probably sounds like a stupid question, but I thought I'd ask before I did and finalized pieces.

Also, since this is a character design thing, can we show multiple views of the character? ... like a turn around?

BTW, I'll say it again......... GREAT T-DOME IDEA!!

"...full color illustrations emphasising the character design"

    not black and white.

It 's best to do it in color to show the materials that the costume/armor is made of. Gold, iron, silver, stone, etc. We also want to see the artists skill at working with color.
You can show multiple views if you'd like; it's up to you. It's your presentation and how you sell it.

You can place them in an environment but keep in mind that it isn't the environment design that will be judged. The emphasis is the character.

Question about the part where it has to be influenced by Ancient Civilizations.

Does that mean just one, or many?
Like the warriors picked up a few things here and there?

    thanks

    pick one

Pic a civilization and focus on it. For example: Points against you if you have a Roman dude slinging a weapon that is clearly Persian in design. More brownie points if your character is in fact, without a doubt from...where ever. Does that make sense?

if i'm understanding right, we are designing a character that has fought in the t-dome for at least the last 1500 years? kinda like the dudes in highlander? so we can only have one cultural influence? not like a bunch of stuff that they picked up through the ages?

Salieri: Sure you can make him a veteran of the area if you want. but he just has to have armor/weapons/costume from ONE ancient culture. Not a hodge podge of collected cultures. just one, not two. Two would be too many;as would three. Four would definitely, most instantly land you posish on the losers pile. so keep it in the range of exactly one ancient culture influence.

Gah, the weapon I designed for my particular entry has no real origin. The character however, his clothing etc does. I don't want to change his weapon because its so awesome, so I think I will start working on a new entry..and just leave the other for something else.

hi, not to argue, but i've been re-reading the brief and as far as i understand it, i dont think the character necessarily has to be of one culture, only that he originated from one and that the final design is influenced by it.... plus 3000 years is a long time for something to remain static and uninfluenced by other cultures. it seems like this is extremely open (which is good and makes me happy). so i guess this means i am in disagreement with what mcotie is saying even though he is in charge of this section of the forum.
