30 minute skull study - We just got a cast of a real human skull!!

I recommend getting a cast of a real human skull to study from real life... here's a 30 minute study from last night on purple -- it is really bizarre to see the nasal cavity's!!

Tony 0930 = Thanks and glad you like!

kamal_anjelo = Thanks Dude! more on the way...

Asa B = Just trying to keep up with your compulsive nature!! LOL! Ha ha ha... Thanks by the way you totally rock! Started the new girl on black ground and cut in colors and shapes. The hair tutorial was done with two brushes my boyfriend made - forgot that piece of info - one is like a pencil and one is a soft round brush - more like an oval. Iceland? I want to visit!!

Hey Kelly, love you last character, great tones. Thanks very much for the huge piece of feedback on my sketchbook, it was really helpful. When you spoke about linear and optical artists it really made me think a lot. Keep up the awesome work!

    Thanks

Talking d&d study... another girl. Start sketch and have five paintings started now.

Hyptosis = Thanks dude, your sketch book rocks and coming from you and your mad skills This Is a Compliment!
Asa B=love your style! and thanks!
My 57 = Glad you will copy this hair tutorial and it is a combo of many hair tips, brushes and looking at hair a lot - to look is to see.
Stolensky = I do believe we are both optical and do hope you get James Kei download... So glad you know about this now and it helped me a lot with blocks of color.

This is a start for a card = they blocked the contest but now I may do some DD type cards just because they are a good story & study.

Juxbudgie! Thanks and I don't know this womans work!! I really like it a lot and actually this is my own subject although I did read a description of the place - she is my own subject because she is not correct for any D&D character - I made her up, never even played this game in my life - after I painted this I read that she is all wrong for the characters in the game, Nubie D&D here, but it is so interesting to me (love dragons!!)- but she is my idea and of what I envisioned an elf to be. The artist you mentioned is very interesting to me and now I have to find out more!! So cool of you and thanks! K

Hi thanks for stopping by my sketchbook I have spent around an hour now looking at your work. It's just beautiful. Your painting is so smooth. Like with the blending of colours. How your light areas blend into shade is amazing. I do hope I can eventually reach this level with my work. Post more I will be waiting

Wow, very sexy ladies and very nice drawings.

Thanks for the motivation on my SB, needed it.

    I really like this one

The way you did the step by step and it just looks soooo awesome. Keep it up. I must say at first the black dress looked better but now that i look at the pink more, it suits it more.

I'm loving the light in this one. I notice the light even before I give consideration for the subject matter. Again, I hate to be a neat freak but more accuracy in the figure also would be great.

the last study is good, nice tones n values...from life, is it?????
The thing is about life studies I have seen is that ...most of the times due to lighting and immense amout of reflection...the forms look too flat...so you as an artist have to read those subtle tone changes and produce them more prominently to display form....

in the painting on the top..try to be more patient with your strokes..and colors too ...try to use a limited/restrained palette ..right now the colors look a little muddy....anyways keep drawin n painting man....
n thanks for being over at Sb

I like what I am seeing. Sometimes things start out pretty loose but I like how you comeback to things again and again until they are clear.

I realize you are working on a book now, but I'd love to see you try some environments, creatures, or industrial designs some time.

    Hi Kelly
I do admire the photographic quality of your work! very accurate colours etc. You wanted crits though...
The girl with gun (the pink suit) I think perhaps could do with more form; I think it may be lost on the breasts and the torso in general.
I can very well believe that's how it looked from the reference you had though.

Also how would you feel about experimenting with styles, I think inked cartoon figures would suit your subjects.

    Just a few thoughts

    Question Starfish and Coffee...

Has it been that long? Been working on a business plan for animation company, doing research for that. I think it worked out well. Watching loads of TV, and listening to podcasts, looking at old drawings. My laptop is acting funny so I've been wary of trying to do stuff. Actually I've been downloading trial softs like Freehand which has some really unique advantages over Flash. I think I'm gonna try Painter next...

Lovin' the new lighting technique! Do you do prelim sketches first or dive into it?

Cout=mecha = Just blobs of color to form -- I can't sketch to save my life actually, I thought there was something wrong with my mind actually - but found out that some people were "optical" and others "linear" and linear one's can draw and optical one's see in blocks of color. Get the down load of James Kei on the front of this forum and learn the difference, it's cool and not to sound like a freak but, I am, changed my artistic life!
Sounds like your watching too much TV get off the couch and paint, I like your work!! Painter X is cool but I really like photo shop better!!

Maybe Clyde could be looking over towards the left frame to draw a little attention and energy to that part of the pic. It's a good start. Perhaps you could have some of that light just a peeking thru the trees a bit...
