    blue's sketchbook

    Hey eveyone,

This is my first post on the site so I decided I should start of with sketches and get some feedback on how and what to improve before completely immersing myself in the site and getting my ass handed to me by the professionals.

So these are the first couple of pieces that have come out of this first year of me working digitallly, please give me as much feedback as possible, and should you have any tips and tricks that would be sweet too.

    thanks and hope you enjoy.

    fun with lights

So I figured Im pretty bad with lighting and using multiple colors so I did this quick light and contrast study in which I went way overboard on saturation but I think it came out pretty good.

    happy and tired

I've been working for the past two hours on these two, now I'm tired but happy that I got this much in so little time (more free time tomorwo that I'll probably just spend working more on other drawings)

    Compositions!!!!

I was messing around with compositional studies and just asked my roommate what he saw in this image at an early stage, he said it was an industrial complex on a river side, I thought is was a bridge running over a river from temple into a forest. So I drew them both...I kinda like his spin on it more.

    Nice Work!

    Keep it up

I particularly like the environment work (this last one and the panoramic one).

    anatomy study: skull

thanks slechtvalk I was thinking of doing more environments since everyone seems to be looking for environment artists, it's good to know that someone likes them.

but for now I'm studying human anatomy, were learing the muscles in one of my classes but kinda skipped over the details of the skeleton so I'm doing that in my free time.

    golden section

A compositional practice piece using the golden section and a little bit of fudging, I didnt think it would work so well. My respect goes out to the masters that figured this one out.

    doodle doodle doodle

trying to practice rough designs/brainstorming, this came out in the last hour. I hear this stuff is important for Art directors to see if you can come up with ideas not just one finished painting if you wana become a concept artist (yes please I do and soon)

    hell hound

I really liked the hound like creature in my quick sketches and made a more refined version, I'm thinking of using this as a process piece with a final one in full color coming up.

I really dig the giant robot pic at the top. Overall you have some nice stuff. You may want to get a little braver with saturation in your pieces. Maybe just pic one dominant color and bump it up a little bit.

    Stuff

Hell yeah I want all that stuff, those guys are ridiculous, and I am working on getting faster and smacking things down on the page and I cant imagine you getting lazy Aj that is a lie and you know it.

Adele- Thanks, I kinda started liking the second one more than the first but whatever

KelsM- yeah color is not my strong point I seem to fluctuate between too saturated and not at all.

Now some more stuff, I looked at this piece and started to kinda not like it anymore so I destroyed it by covering everything I didnt like and then redrawing it, its a little better now. The last one is a little more done, I need to finish the rabbit/bird creatures and then populate the background with people and such it looks too desolate right now. Then some more stuff I just did.

    I like your stuff.

Your newer one with the starfighters/planes or whatever: I don't like how the one on the right just blends in with the cliff. The cliff almost seems to be formed around it.
