    New York! The state of...art?

So..My parents, my brother, and I are all taking a trip to New York this summer, and I have been given the opportunity to choose a few things that we get to do there.
Now I know New York has many artistic facets, and we've already planned to go to a couple of the museums, but what else can we do that would involve art? Anyone know?

Hang out in the Chelsea district, you will meet artists on the streets and there are dozens of galleries in that area, including Agora.

The Society of Illustrators is a cool spot.
Not only will they have a show hanging,
but if you go on a Thursday they have a live band and life drawing.

I've always had the most fun sketching in the MET. I could spend a week or more there.

You should plan your events in terms of area. Society of Illustrators is pretty far uptown. Whereas Illustration House is midtown. Arcadia Gallery is in Soho or thereabouts (downtown), etc. You really don't want to spend too much time travelling or walking between events you plan to attend. New York will take it out of you in a hurry. So group your events by area.
