this could even be a "hot babe " topic . Its sooooo wide open
come on people don't make me regret giving you a couple easy SF topics

Since music and reading are my usual spiritual retreat, I can't say this topic is simple for me, I must translate them into an environment...

Actually that's really nice topic. I might give it a try. I have one real life place but just painting it wouldn't be very creative. It would be much more fun to create completely new imaginary place for spiritual retreat. I'll think about it.

This is inspired from a real place near my parents house(sutton, qc, can), a creek called the the witch's cauldron. Situated on a quartz mountain this place has a tremendous energy flow, it used to be a spiritual passage to "the other side " for the natives. Sitting there you can almost hear them, fel them, see them running in the trees living in total harmony with their suroundings. This is where i go when i relly feel the need to have a deep conection to the universe and that big floating ball we live on.
EOW 83 Your Personal Spiritual retreat

Farvus I dont think painting a real place lacks creativity, first you can paint from your inner experience instead of painting from refs or observation, second i think the subject requires more a mood representation then inventive architecture or suroundings...and third a concept artist is not always suposed to create imaginary location, or invent anything, but its job is always to create and convey a mood and atmosphere even to the most boring environement.

    maks444 - Yeah. I think you're right.

This is how my spiritual retreat looks like. I'm half there beacause my mind travels to different times and places. That's why it's a mix of real life and imagination.

EDIT: Slightly improved colors. I was a bit worried that fish dominated the work which is more about environment so I toned it down a bit.

Farvus I love the first person viewpoint. I wish I had thought to require it. ah well... its probably difficult enough as is.

I was just wondering, on a site like this would there not be a whole lot of people who see art as a sort of spiritual retreat? Just kicking that out there.

    Talking First Sketches

Chaosrocks> you said "you guys need to get creative 180 people have looked at this and no one has weighed in (after 1 day)...didn't you see where it says, "even Imaginary retreats? Don't tell me you don't day dream".

    - I had to stew on this for a while. I have a dozen (at least) inner landscapes to which I retreat ...but choosing just one and deciding how to show it took some time. But I think I've got a starting place, at least.

I'm in. And here are my first sketches. Any and all crits welcome.

Here is my WIP, although I'm not sure what else I will do to it. My spiritual retreat is the wilderness of my imagination. Great entries so far

    My WIP;
A friend of mine once discirbed himself as a "Searching Mosaic", I then discribed myself as a "Squirming Tree". I love the rain and sun, preferably at the same time.

Rayk - you ever play the game Riven? That game has got to be the most beautiful, well thought out game I have ever played. Its a shame they don't re-release it in 24-bit color. Here is a link to some images.

    Sundance - interesting idea,

maks444 - lovely image, who handled the light 'bleed' very well. The water seems ethereal, was this intentional?

Farvus - I like your style/perspective. Did you consider trying to render the 'ghost nose' at the bottom of our field of vision? I never seen some capture that convincingly.

acapulco - I'm having trouble figuring out what this is, and I love a good visual mystery. Is it a pond or a rock quarry? The retainment wall gives a weird vibe to the piece conceptually.
As for execution, shouldn't there be a slight value/contrast drop to the rocks as the get farther from the viewer.

Lucky Munky - I like thumb A. By the way, what is your avatar? Do you have a link to a larger image.

Lucid_Concepts - the mountains in the background seem to soft. love the monochrome-ish color choices. I don't think that the cropping of the foreground tree helps the composition.

Maaiker - nice idea, I hope this isn't finished.

Sturnus - I don't really have anything bad to say other than I think that color would change the mood. perhaps an exaggerated cool light/warm shadow or vice versa.

Dandilion - I hope you finish cause I just love sunlight and your image reminds me of my childhood room.
Please do dust floating in the beam.

Sundance - I like the idea, not the composition. Was this digital or analog? looks like real life markers?
I think there needs to be more contrast in the foreground tree and structures. However, i hate markers and it could just be my own biases at work.

Corrick - your textual composition is a stroke of genius, however i'm not sure Chaos will take it to poll. I want to see some work. Your last Art Crusade piece was beautiful.
