    Alamut, Hive-class Carrier
Being 1115m long, 220m wide and 1310m high, Alamut carriers are an impressive and intimidating sight to behold, and with an operating crew of more than 2100 people, they are the third biggest vessels in the Mercurian Armada.

One single Alamut carrier can transport up to 4 battle-ready bataillons of Hashashin tactical fighters, each bataillon consisting of 28 crafts.

    Ghooric Zone III
This is the Crusader Class "Ghooric Zone III"Light Starfighter Carrier, armed with heavy and light weapons against every class of craft,
and at least 2 tactical bodys of "Marduks" , each one consists by 4 squadrons à 15 fighters and 2 SpaWACS.
The Crew consists of 3200 antoids and 200 Otonadoid pilots, and maybe some Killerbees from Formalhaut Alpha.

    Hammer of God
Fighter Carrier Special Vehicle Category 452/3520b “Hammer of God” is one of many vessels equipped with FTL drives enabling the Yamaguchi-Farqhuar clan to carry smaller fighters to in-system combat zones. In this image the FTL channelling petals are still in their deployed position. Hammer Of God has no weapons of its own, being protected by its complement of fighters. The holding bays, hugger mugger with craft, are lit up like the proverbial Christmas Tree- the Yamaguchi-Farqhuar clan aren’t afraid of anyone, and what’s it to you anyway? In typically perverse fashion, the skin of the carrier has been painstakingly painted to resemble rust.

    The B.I.G
The B.I.G (Big Is Good) Carrier and T.I.N.Y (Tiny Is Neat, Yeah!) Fighter form the core of FLIP Industries Star Fleet range. The marketing team were all disintegrated after coming up with the disastrous slogan "How many TINYs can you fit in your BIG?" which caused several members of the board to throw themselves out a window, which was actually an airlock, which then had to be cleaned.

    New Dawn Command Carrier
The legends say the forerunners traveled across the galaxy through wormholes, but that technology has been long lost. Now that Humanity has turned its attentions to the stars again, it must travel slowly through the void, from system to system, reforging the bonds of scattered populations under a New Dawn.

This Command Carrier is largely automated, since it must spend hundreds of years travelling between habitable systems. A small crew of humans exist as digital avatars within its computer core, duplicating their minds to command robotic attack craft. The huge radar 'crow's nest' is intended to serve as a tactical imaging system for thousands of fighters and other remotes.

The fighters themselves are launched from three immense hanger bays along magnetic catapaults. Each hanger is capable of simultaneously launching six fighters, receiving returning fighters at the rear. The hangers are effectively factory units, a role which is shared by the various refineries, machines shops and parts storage modules that lie around the outer ring.

The Command Carrier is not intended to engage the enemy directly, relying almost entirely on its high powered sensors and fast attack craft to destroy enemies. It is fairly well armoured against small arms, but is also only armed with point-defense lasers, making it extremely vulnerable to capital ships.

    Some notes on this round:

Actually, I'm pretty tired at the moment so I leave that until tomorrow. WIP's and unfinished entries are not taken to poll.

Well, I would have loved to have competed in the last two week's IDW's, but I've just been too swamped with school to even think about participating. Anyways, I've been paying close attention to the thread.
    My vote went to Hallo.

Hallo Yours was undoubtedly the most completed and well polished. The green light really worked to complement the picture and make it different from others. Everything just seemed extremely well done. BRAVO

D-Holme I loved your theme.. involving a medievil architecture and look with the futuristic spacecraft was very creative. I think the main problem with yours is that you don't emphasize the shadows or highlights NEARLY enough, and therefore the final picture looks flat and incomplete. I think the edges and the shapes could have been sharper. However, it was nonetheless a great design and idea and I think the you did a great job on the background.

Funghi from Yuggoth I can tell you spent a lot of time on yours... It definitely has a nice unique look and is very representative of your fighter. I also like the interface you added in with the things around the sun and the identification and stuff. The main problem I found with yours is that it is very polygonal and blocky. Do you have a Wacom? It seems like almost all of your edges and lines are completely linear and not hand drawn. You did pay attention to all of the help that you were given on the other forum though, particularly with the adding of the green reflection on the ship. Great job

Johnn The design is great, is drawn very well and professionaly, and reflects your fighter well. Yours didnt get my vote because it lacked an environment and background in space.

IanMc Another highly polished entry... Well detailed, very professional looking. I think if you had made the color of the carrier a red similar to your fighter it would have looked better. Also, the claw like thingies at the back end don't look right. They should be facing different directions, but making them perfect from this viewpoint would definitely be very difficult, and if I were making it I certainly would get it wrong hahaha. Great job overall though.

Flip I think yours has he potential to be a lot greater. The design and colors are very good but it looks like you could have spent more time refining all the edges and making more ornate details. Same with the background; it could have used some stars or a planet or something.

IcyM Good design, good background. You could have emphasized highlights more, but it still looks polished and 3-D. Also, its centered. It would have looked better if it were on one side with a star or a planet on the other side to balance.

Jim Hatana When I first looked at yours, I said to myself "wow, this looks great... Now what is it?" Something about your style just looks great, but I just cant tell what the heck is going on. The background couldve been beter as there are obvious unblended strokes all over the place.

Janto Bravo on doing a non digital art. It looks great and is quite unique. Good job!

Alright well I get a bunch of time off starting this thursday, so may get a late start on next week's IDW or I may wait until the one after that. I'll probably go ahead and do this next one though.

ALSO, somewhere in making this post I activated overwrite. HOW THE HECK DO I TURN IT OFF? MAN i hate freaking overwrite. Its so annoying.

don't expect to make poll or anything, but this has been done for a few days and i thought today's deadline was later tonight... actually i don't know what i thought /o\

anyway, my last design didn't go down well with most, i still have plans for it, and its movement in my head all works out and would be badass to animate, but i guess it doesn't live up as a 2 person fighter. anyway, it functions in tandem with its carrier escort that provides jump drive capabilities to the sub light fighters.

with high precision the carrier will drop out in the middle of an enemy encampment, its sublight engines flicker to life like old fluorescent bulbs and it proceeds to ram targets of value with its bulky and armored frame. meanwhile the fighters bail out like bombs and engage the target.

Legato: I was already quite late with making the poll I though

I decided not to do another follow-up of these, but in the future more might follow. I think the idea of consecutive rounds works pretty well.

Nice crop of images (again). For me, a toss up between Hallo's superb rendering, D Holmes' really interesting line drawing (though the finished piece was flat-sorry)and Johnn's mental Beluga whale styled carrier. Really- an all white spaceship- like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. I'm going for Johnn's piece, but I wouldn't want to have to clean it.
BTW Christian and Digital Seeker, you're dead right about those petal things on my concept- I don't know how I came up with such a lame idea. Won't do it again.

IanMc -I don't think the actual idea itself was bad... It definitely fits the ship. Just the way they were drawn wasnt great. Drawing the correct angles and stuff from the perspective that you drew the ship would require a lot of extra work which probably wouldnt be worth the end product. Maybe if you made them less linear and just smooth curves, it wouldve been easier to draw.

Hi all! Sorry for the late comments, been busy with work.

hallo: Great finish, nice silhouette, and nice play on the reference photo you used. The only thing is your fighter, which is small, doesn't quite feel its from the same carrier. I don't think you were in the previous idw-starfighter, but the fighter shapes are very organic to me, while the carrier is angular and blocky.

D-Holme: Love your design and ideas. Who says a carrier has to be streamlined? Nice presentation with the details and sketches. I think you could have pushed the contrast more and have stronger highlights.

Fughi from Yuggoth: Good design and link to your starfighter. Excellent work. I think you could have started in a more dynamic perspective, it would have pushed your look more. Similar to Johnn and Hallo's? Lastly, I think your background could use softening and pushed back more. I know mine was an after thought, but your planet and clouds are so bright, it distracts me from your carrier.

Johnn: Great finish and continuity with your fighter. Looks great! Your background doesn't bother me, going thru hyperspace? It works, good presentation, I just look at your carrier. But, while I don't know the "culture" of the spacefarers or background, the smooth curves of the carrier feels more luxury than starfighter carrier?

IanMc: I really like your continuity with your fighter. I like your overall silhouette and organic feel. The open claws in back aren't bad, but they look thin. If they were reinforced? But I think if the perspective was pushed there, it would help.

Flip: Cool design, it really feels like it would carry fighters and is a support craft. But your presentation is heavy on the right, if you shift the ships to the left more would balance it more. Also, the sphere engine in back (very cool idea) doesn't feel centered directly in back.

IcyM: Looking back, I like the shape and feel, but I think I could have pushed the finish more. Break up the ship more, while keeping the silhouette, its too blocky, too many flat surfaces. Thanks digital seeker! After seeing many of yours, I need to plan for the background better too.

Jim Hatama: Great continuity to your fighter. I love your feel and shape of your carrier. Really nice. Love the forward section. But, it doesn't feel being finished yet. I'm getting the general feeling of your carrier, but I'm not sure where its going yet.

Janto: Nice design. I like where you were headed with this. Defenetly breaks from the norm of carriers, but I'm afraid to looks like a space station? Research facility? Also, you could strengthen your design with stronger contrast and color. I don't think you were in the previous idw, but adding in something to indicate the size of your carrier would be good.

Nice round everyone. I'll keep trying to participate this is really fun and great to do something different.

    Opinions and critiques always welcomed!

Voted for Jim Hatama - Great unconventional organic shapes, love how the fighters are hanging on like flies - like the rough sketchy style, but would maybe push the detail a bit more. Other good entries this time too.

I really liked hallo's, Flip's and IcyM's entries. I like how you show the starfighters leaving the carrier as well as storage possibilities. My vote went to hallo because it looks well polished to me and it has a great atmosphere.

Hallo: not much to crit, it's a well executed painting and design that echos the reference object well. Nice work.
D-Holme: I wasn't a fan of your choice of reference images regarding the topic initially but now I've...urr, seen the light! I think the result is intriguing with real conceptual merit. Technically I suspect the image could be quickly lifted with increased tonal range, not many very dark or very light tones present on the ship.
Fughi from Yuggoth: like I said in the 'work in progress' thread. I'm glad you persevered with the design, I think you made some worthy progress.
IanMc: The front is great, look heavy/armoured/industrial and has strong design ties to your fighter. The rear is... well you know, everyone else has said it. ---& in response--- Is there much dust in space? Surely there are fly-through craft washes some where in the civilized galaxy.
Flip: Cool looking design, I like it. Doesn't have the feeling of being particularly big to me, not quite sure why though.
IcyM: Looks good to me. Painting-wise not quite a lively as some others (eg Hallo's entry) some of the surfaces (esp the big one in the foreground) are painted with very flat colour/tone that doesn't help bind the into the environment.
Jim Hatama:The concept is really cool, I like the emotive colour work too but like other said difficult to read regarding forms, bad factor if that is one of your goals for this piece. More readable than the fighter though.
Janto: Ah, a classic SF ring design I suspect the image might have held together better if the background was mostly a really dark blue or green to tie in with the ships colouring.

---whoo, I made it! comments on them all---

arrgh! Legato: you posted too late for a comment ...I like the shape in your ship although, and i can quite put my finger on why, if you swapped your fighter and carrier designs around I would be more convinced.

    well,there u go.
I want to say sorry for my temper last post
Also I want to say THX for all the crits ,they are welcome, after i kicked them into crits i want to hear. It is childish of me, to make that officially.

    Hallo....2nd
    + nice colours, nice lighting,nice fighters,blablubb,everything
    - simple shape of the ship, there is no included room (just in the hangar)
....It is like these houses with 1 room,it could be more complicated

    D-Holme
+ I like the church Idea
    - I hate churches......
the stone design is well for buildings, but somehow it doesn't work proper for me on a spaceship

    Johnn
+ rendering, surface ,colours that stuff
    - it seems to be a frigate or destroyer for me, It "looks" to small and seems to act to autonomic without smaller snubfighters around it.

    IanMC....3rd
+ good language , nice colours, bright elements, complicated shape, very simillar to fighter in the head
    - rendering, the fighter thing again, its nearly the same head with other tail, it seems to me, that u like the front of ur fighter, but u don't like the back and so u want to revidate(?) that mistake.

    Flip
    +rendering, colours, surface
    - it looks like a design study for a .....design study, not like a carrier.
    It can be anything.

After reading the other comments i have to add, that a bowl shaped engine do IS fucking great idea!!

    IcyM
    + Shape, Languange,Colours,rendering
    - the pic could have more depth, not in the space or the room, but in the surface.

    Jim Hatama
+ style, colours, the great idea of docking massive ammounts of the fighters on the surface like flies(!)
    - the same thing like last time, i cannot understand the shape of the ship,
but therefore yet i do understand the fighter (maybe add some schemata like IanMC)

    Janto
+ retro design , water colours, very unique ways, SURFACE!!
    - It doesn't work as carrier to me, It 's just a spaceship
You say that u got the hangars in the 3 pods around the equator of ur ship, but actually I cannot seem them

If there was something like a special note price or B note voting or something, ur the one for me!I think u spend the most thoughts of all of us into ur ship design.

    Legato
+ Ship Design, Modular building ways are great, great combination of train elements with insect elements, surface and rendering, a little bit of similiar ways to Janto (NO COPY!!!!!!!111eleven) in circular scheme
    - no hangar, but that big thing in the back , the background and the ship do not interact, u spend all ur time on the ship's body and rushed some stars in the back, i think (like myself with that cocain ). the gate stuff can be done better, I know that u can improve it

sorry for the late post, just got back from paris. thanks for all the votes + comments so far!

d-holme: cool design, the connection to the references is really clear. the carrier looks smaller than the fighter to me, though.

funghi: like the design. the image is a bit cluttered and the colors are a bit over the top.

johnn: top notch design + rendering. you almost got my vote, but the carrier looks more like a luxury cruise liner... damn fine nonetheless. digging your fighter.

ianmc: you got my vote. the carrier and the fighter share just the right amount of design elements. contrary to others, i actually like everything about the carrier design. seconding christian weeks, the only thing i'd change about it would be the colours to match the fighters' (or vice versa, of course).

flip: really nice, quite aggressive and menacing (its the red i guess). a few highlights might make it pop even more. the info bit is funny :>

icym: nice + clean cartoonish style. not much to say, well done.

jim hatama: intriguing rendering, looks quite anime-inspired - correct me if i'm wrong here. i like it, but as others have alreay stated, it's a bit vague and hard to read in places. props for the style, digging it.

janto: cool! more space station than carrier (again repeating what others wrote), straight out of the sixties, would go along very well to the 2001 theme.

    This is not for you.
