I really like the flow and looseness of your sketches, very fluid and compelling in a quiet way. I think you could use a dose of contrast in some of these pages though. Quality stuff, keep it up.

Hey Rarebit, I really dig your pencil work. There's a really cool Bill Plympton vibe to some of your work. Awesome stuff!

Nice little red riding hood shenanigans. You should be a children's book illustrator. Seems like your niche.

Emmett, dood, these pages is great. Love the crazy implied narrative in some...I think the "antidote" doodle is my fave. How's RISD treating you?

Hey man, i've been missing some fantastic sketchbook pages. Really loving your style but i'd like to see a lil' bit more contrast in your drawings.

Anyways, cool as hell and inspired.

What impresses me with your sketchbookpages is the great hatchwork in your shading. Some areas are better than others, and those are splendid indeed!

    Hey dood,
It's me "Adam" from Ringling/Austin/facebook, anyway you've got some cool stuff here.

I think your figure stuff in your sketchbook is much stronger than you environment work. As a place to start I think I would probably try to establish stronger planes. Give me a distinct "foreground, middle-ground, background" instead of one plane in the middle-ground.

I am assuming some of the charcoal figure drawings are from life, these are really RAD! I would love to see some of that strong lighting sense trickle over into the stuff you are doing from your head. Don't be afraid to use a full value range. It looks like a major difference between the two is a commitment to a whole drawing.

i am kind of seeing a big gap in between your finished pieces and your sketchbook stuff. It's almost like your brain is switching modes when you go to finalize something, and I am not as fond of the digital stuff as I am just the drawing stuff. A piece of advice I received from Pratt while I was at school was "use your sketchbooks to practice for your final pieces, whatever you spend time doing in your sketchbook will be easier to handle when you go to do a finished piece" ie: if you're using watercolor a bunch in your sketchbook it will be easier to execute for a final piece. I hope that makes sense. Use your sketchbooks to practice things like composition, or value or WHATEVER! (the sky being the limit, or the multi-verse, whichever floats your boat) I still dig some of the digital stuff your doing, but to me it looks like it doesn't come as naturally.

the best and worst advice I ever received was from a friend of mine who said "It's easy. Just don't do shitty art, and keep drawing".....(not very helpful, but funny)

    It's been awhile...
Fragchimp: Always a pleasure, nice to hear.
Diego: Hey, thank you! Contrast... I dunno, it comes and goes, i really do need to work on that.
jedininjaman: Thanks, ill be sure too soon.
Catula!!!: Almost hit a deer on my way home from class tonight, i may have never updated again
Emwarped: Well, your in luck! Its in december... thanks for comin' by.
Hive_minD: Thanks! Workin on upping the standard...
Tamte: Hey! Thanks so much for coming by, i know it's been awhile since i dropped a line. I can see what you mean with the digital work, though i do feel that in practicing the hand/tablet/computer relationship becomes more natural for me. I definatly focus my energies on figurative work and have been sluggishly bringing myself around to working on my perspective/ planes/ enviroments, it just isnt as interesting to me to doodle i suppouse. Thanks for the pratt comment, it's been swimming around in the back of my head since i read it... what else? I'll keep working!
PieMonster: Thank you, well here we are.
Tigermilk: 17.5 this christmas... thank you, i appreciate it.

Various things, certaintly not a month's worth of work... some color though?
Back to more characteristic things next update...

And you're just a year older than me? Damn. I'll have to work harder then, haha.

    Piemonster: Cheers!
    Stevan: Thankyeh sir
5coop: Aye, thank you, goodluck on college apps man.
Xeom: Good to hear, thank you!
hp: All about the bright colors... thank you!
BRINKMAN!: Oh no! Well here we are.

With the show come and gone, im going to be making a conscious effort to keep this thread regularly updated again. Currently working on developing my light/atmosphere and perspective while still messing with the regular figurative stuff to make my unreferenced stuff more 'advanced'. Sketchbook pages next update, i swear. And if anyone has any basic pointers for perspective work that might save me a few hours of messing around in my sketchbook, im all about moving this process along.
