Here's my WIP so far. I'm pretty new to digital painting so I'm hoping to learn some technique out of this project.

By the way, this is Miyamoto Musashi.

    wip

Here's my wip so far, going with "Genga khan/Temujina" (about to decapitate her horse!)

I originally wanted to do something more serious and refined, but I started sketching and this is what came out instead... Is the gender not obvious enough? Perhaps she needs more "chest development"? I was going to put a mustache on her, still would like to, but I figure that might not work for this chow...

hopefully I'll be able to finish it tomorrow.

Aw crap, Wholewheat. I also wanted to do Temujin (Ghengis Khan). Well, not do but create a female version.

Darnit.....(and I may have time this week as it'll be spring break! Yay!)

Off to search for another subject.......

    ETA:

I'm going to choose between Alexander the Great and King Arthur. Another figure I was considering - Wyatt Earp.

Ebony go for it! That will be awesome!

As for me. I'm swapping out cause Rasputin isn't being Rasputin for me until I scribbled her a beard on.

    I'm going for Pocahontas now.

ryuloulou - Alright, fair assessment. I'll admit I got a little lazy
ACRO- I feel that although I didn't deviate much from the original, there is something to be said for the way in which women are portrayed on these sites. I mean, the average gender bend has been to turn homely men into some sort of bombshell with small waists and huge tits. It's technically not suited for the era I was trying to portray. Anyway, I'll take myself out of the challenge, or do it again, whichever you guys think would be better. Ah well, I'm just getting time to participate in these things, anyway.

Being a Spartan she should have an olive skin tone Wiggers, although saying that, Im sure I read somewhere once that the Spartans used to smear ashes over their skin to make them more haunting.

Although do NOT use that for the representation now I've said that. You'd need to find the proof of it and I can't at the moment. *goes searching* Although it could just be me being the dizzy blonde I usually am

"I'm a damsel, I'm in distress, I can handle this! Have a nice day."

    ...Some sort of sketchbook...

    Thanks guy's

Dead skin really? understand what you are saying it would had been easy enough to do her all bronzed with a nice tan but i wanted to get a good contrast with the red of her tunic and the colours of the background.

Ok, im doing Prince Rupert of the Rhine, woot woot. Very interesting guy.

    Heres my Ref: http://www.british-civil-wars.co.uk/biog/rupert.htm

Im not too sure if this first picture is actually him, because when I searched "prince Rupert" it came up, but not when I searched "Prince Rupert of the Rhine".

@ Lalilulelo: You now what it's all about don't ya ...
@ ACRO: Hehe ... It's Photoshop but I did the first sketch in good old MS Paint and scaled it up afterwards ... Works out very well!
@ madhatter106: That's what artistic licence is all about don't you think so ...? Besides it pretty well represents the controversy between the diplomat and the warlord Winston Churchill ... AND I like the Tommy-Gun

So all in all that's my last offer for today evening hope you like it so far crits are welcome ...!

Bah, it takes me forever to arrive at a funky result. Guess I'll stop there and go paint some fruits for a while and hopefully get better before doing these activities. Sorry about that

Hmm. The cut-off is 1950, and though I've been making exceptions, this one is a bit too close... He died in 2000, so.

Well I'm jumping on this wagon a little late considering I leave for the beach wednesday, but I saw this topic and an idea popped into my head that I couldn't ignore.

Would it be okay if I did Lady Godiva? (because there's too many women with swords and guns etc. We need some naked men on horses!)

Alright, so first time trying this out here, Hurrah!

Anyway I decided to do good old Descartes for my entry, as far as I can tell he's not been taken, and I wanted to post my reference and idea just to make sure all was okay.

These images were mostly taken from the Wiki on Desartes and the womens wardrobe was taken from the 1600-1650's fashion wiki. Stuck together and scaled down a bit for viewing here.

I've started my sketch and I'll post it here before I launch into color so I can get peoples responses and make changes.

Okay so here's where I've gotten to, I decided that I had the opportunity to use 1600's clothing for women because Descartes is an intellectual and there's not special garb necessary for thinking; however this means that I need to convey the character via other elements, like the quill and books, similar hair dew. Also I've tried to actually give a similar likeness while sill changing the gender. His nose has been particularly difficult to adapt. I hope to work into color as the week progresses.
