Alright, well first off: hello guys =). I decided today to actively participate in the DSG, look forward to drawing with you all; some extremely talented individuals.
This is my first concept art posted on DSG, in fact - my first post of my own work ever. I'm fairly new to drawing as a whole, so I'm struggling with color blending and shading, e.t.c., everything =]. But I have a color blind eye disorder... Anyway, I want serious criticism, please.
I did a rough outline on what I wanted to do in my sketchbook, scanned it in - then did the 'meatier,' stuff with GIMP and my tablet. It didn't come out the way I wanted it to. I wanted it to have a more "powerful" feeling; with the angle facing up upon it and closer. I spent a little less than an hour on this. Come to think of it, it's actually the first colored concept art of my own, ever.
I had a difficult time figuring out how to draw a horse on its hind legs. I did a google image search to get some references, but found but one poor quality picture of one from a front view. I referenced it for the legs and general outline, and didn't really use it from there. My first horse picture, too lol.

SAI and little editing in oC
@Vanvalen: looks very good for this short time *_* - i like these red lines, which give an idea of the horses silhouette
I think the legs are too short - it looks a little plump this way - the green doesnt really fit, but maybe it's just grey for you? His head looks demonic, thats a good thing.

Zone - Thanks for the feedback. Looking back at it after clearing my thoughts for a while, you're completely right. Haha, I can't believe it's green. Comparing mine to yours, and assuming that's brown on yours... I did a major screw up, haha. I need to literally memorize the difference. It's not to the point where I see black & white...
http://colorvisiontesting.com/online%20test.htm - if you take that test, it'll tell you what a normal person can see, and what I can't.
Oh well, it's still fun drawing, guess I'll only get better, right? Thanks, mate. Both your drawing and Vanvalen's are very nice in different aspects.

I know these tests and was always first surprised when my neighbor in school couldn't recognize the numbers or shapes in these diagrams ^^.
nice work, but i think feathers dont fit him very well

William b hand: I apologize, forgot about the size
ZoneZero:ja you are right, there should be flesh instead of feathers. I just ran out of time and left wings unfinished.
I like the colors you were using, atmospheric. the Pegasus looks like perfused with lava
i guess both of us could work on anatomy a little more

Some crits/thoughts, hope you don't mind.
Vanvalen; Eerie sight, nice atmosphere. Think you did well on the depth, and only 20mins. I don't think the fearsome head goes too well with those slender, harmless legs. They seem to take some of his "power" away, if you get what I mean. The bright red around the body makes for a nice focus.
Lennybird; Welcome! Don't worry, everyone has to start somewhere. Keep using reference, it really helps. You're not scared of trying a tough pose, and I'm seeing some interesting details in your concept. Lay down the larger, basic shapes and colors first, then work your way into the details. Keep it up! The daily sketch group is a great place to practice. And as for the color blindness - that makes two of us . Make sure you sample and compare a lot.
ZoneZero; Like it. Especially the fluent strokes on the wings, and the interesting colors. Looks as if he's turned his head a little, looking at the viewer. The neck and back could be better I think - they're a little stiff.
PlasmaErnst; Sweet, nice job on those appendages. Makes for a nice, twisted, demonic feel. No real crits here ;| As for the feathers; I think a fleshy version of feathers would fit your creature, not sure if thats what you went for. Good stuff as always.
Hamsta; Aggressive and dynamic. Nice job on the foreshortening too, those wings look great. Think you could easily push the rest of his body "back" a little using saturation and sharpness and whatnot. Would make your image even more striking. Though I'm sure you know. manes and tail could be more dynamic to match the pose.
Bit over 1.5 hr. Cut off the lower half because of unfinishness. :|

PlasmaErnst: Awesome. I love all that cool crap coming off his chest.
Anthis: Cool, reminds me of something from Final Fantasy.
Vanvalen: Really nice for 20 min.
I guess I went more of the Rez Evil route. I was thinking of the regular Pegasus on his way to turning into a demon; hence, the horns starting to pop out of his head.

Wow, guys. So much great work for this prompt!
Vanvalen - Love the mood; you did that in ... 20 minutes?!
Lennybird - Hah HA! You've posted! Green actually would make a design pretty interesting, if you used it in the right way. Seems like some more fun experimentation, right there!
PlasmaErnst - Man, you always do the best sketches for the prompts. The design is so interesting and cool that I really want to see you color it. *w*
Anthis - Loving the spines. And the huge "grin".
Naastika - Ooh, transformation! Pretty neat take on the prompt. I like how you can see the flesh around its muzzle. Nice!
I've got a horrible habit of NOT being able to put things down even after the "time limit" has passed. @__@ Maybe 2.5 hours:

yay my first post evar!
nothing says demonic like an upsidedown head... and then came the legs, hoofs are pretty weak, so hey why not scythes? And then more bug parts evolved from there..so this is how it ended up, not bad for a quickish draw then i suppose

PlasmaErnst, love what you did with the outer skeletal structure there. The skull is awesome. Would be cool to see how the wings fit into that.
Anthis, cool design, great colors, very demonic feel. It's a shame you cut the lower half, could've made for a much stronger piece.
kheleksul, I like the feel of your "sketch" - the fire, the movement, the sharp edges everywhere. It's got a great, dark atmosphere.
My go, about 1 hour between tasks at work.

Despite what one viewer said, I'm really not in a dark place!
March 9th, 2008 #24
Wacky: I really like your second one too! It reminds me of something that might of been on Digimon They had some pretty wicked looking monsters.

In the 3rd ring of hell you will find them - those winged demons. once animals of pure light now cursed now for taking a human life. These winged daemons - Be DAMed them and their now blackened heart.
Great work everyone. Lots of fun demonic things today.. Oh ya That reminds me - I am getting behind on my virgin sacrificing and the big red one is not that happy about it... well.. bet get to it.
