    My first cast painting

    Well, what do you think?

I've been working on this painting for 3 months.
The choice of hues is wrong (I think). I used raw umber and zinc white only (and ultramarine blue), but it should have been some grayscale... (black and white only). But it was more of an exercise in proportion and perspective.

It's quite a nice drawing. But, 3 months? If you're practicing proportions and perspective, there's no need to spend so much time on 1 painting. You'll benefit much more by doing lots of quicker studies.

Proportionally, judging from the photo, there are a few errors... Such as the chin being too small (left side of the face not coming down more towards the jaw), mouth is frowning, forehead is too small, right eye is too small and a bit too high up, left eye is a little too big and his ear is too small; The head just seems to have an awequard slant.

It also looks quite flat because your tones are incorrect (lights not light enough and some darks not dark enough). The shading on the nose also makes it look too boney.

But for your first cast painting it's pretty good. Just don't spend as long on studys as you did with this one in the future.

I don't think it's a problem at all that you spent this long on it. Most people don't have the dedication to work on something for that long and really do the work that needs to be done.

Thanks for your comments, Burl and Emily G (I like your work).

Well, it's my first painting and I had problems with it.
But I think I can't do much to improve it,
so I'll move on to the next one. It'll be much better (hopefully).
