two days ago, i went to a toy's r us in order to find the dungeon and dragon basics box, for my older kiddo. i wanted to introduce him to roleplaying. he is only 8 so he's got time to understand how the whole thing works, and i'll help him depict that universe. i started around 12. RPG belonged to my every day life as a teenage. boosted my imagination. made me dream.

thanks for the news. gygax will be missed for sure.
but his legacy is very real.

    Hm.

    Wow.

Many, many fond memories of playing first and second edition D&D way, way, way back in the day.

Many a weekend was spent slaying orcs, kobolds, and dragons

    My condolences to his family.

For those of you out there under 20years old. Step away from those video games, and try a few sessions of D&D.
Video games involves too much spoon feeding. Paper and pencil RPG's are truly imaginative. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

I used to play a lot other RPG games like Warhammer FRP or Call of Cthulhu since early age. Of course it's not D&D but it all came from his ideas. I'm glad that I was (and still am) part of it beacause it really set my imagination free, introduced to storytelling and creating worlds. Thanks for that Gary Gygax. RIP.

Looks like he finally got tired of the prime material plane, and decided to try for that big dungeon in the sky.

Wow. I never heard of this guy, but when I read about him...his influence and contribution to the fantasy and science fiction genre is just staggering. I mean, if he hadn't started the D&D thing way back in the 70's...where would we all be?

I love D&D so much; I started playing when I was around 13 or 14, and to this day I am still hooked. I still have the first character I ever made for a campaign, too.

R.I.P., Gary. You will be missed.

He will be missed. I loved playing to immerse myself into a story line and imagining everything. His impact is felt throughout almost all types of gaming.

Death is only the next big adventure, and adventure is what he does best. Thanks for everything, Mr. Gygax.

Who will play Gygax's character on future seasons of Futurama now?! The Vice Presidential Action Rangers are doomed!

Good night sweet prince, and rest in peace. You've now gone to Elysium.

I basically grew up on a steady diet of CRPGs based in D&D's Forgotten Realms and Planescape Universe. They were also what attracted me to fantasy art in the first place, and influenced me on becoming an artist as well (Even though I currently suck and aren't good yet).

I never played DnD 'right', but the worlds it opened up for me were profound. Mad props to the guy who made it cool to play make-believe and help a lot of social misfits find each other.

    You'll be critically missed, Gary.

Man that is sad news to hear.

When my friends and I were kids, after playing out an adventure we would sit around and draw out scenes that happened. I can only imagine the number of artists inspired by him and the worlds he created.
