    Chow 109 :: Extraterrestrial Immigrant

    Chow 109 :: Extraterrestrial Immigrant

    ROUND #109

    EXTRATERRESTRIAL IMMIGRANT
    -------------
    DESCRIPTION
    EXTRATERRESTRIAL IMMIGRANT

    Imagine that it’s 1000 years from now on earth and extraterrestrial species are now inhabiting the planet. Paint what one of those immigrants would look like.

    It must be a species entirely from your imagination. You can not paint any existing species or a species with a visual representation (in art, movies, etc.). Also it must be in a realistic style. Make believe that this is for a movie that requires ultimate realism like Star Wars. The immigrant can be any place on our planet as you want.

    Have fun!

    Thanks to Jake Kobrin

    Sounds fun! I'll try and get it done in time. We're in finals now, so it'll be iffy.

    Star Wars required realism? Coulda' fooled me. I'm only half kidding.

    Here in the USA, immigration is a hot topic right now. I can't imagine 1000 years from now when everyone's complaining about all the Uborz and Ërgáziles taking our jobs and healthcare. It'll be hectic for sure.

    Star Wars is just an example. What I meant was a film that features a fantasy species in a realistic way. LotR, MiB, etc. It basically just meant no cartoons.

    Just had a flash of inspiration drawn from my own experience as an immigrant (who regularly gets treated as if he were from another planet). Think I'll give it a try.

    I'm actually really looking forward to this round.

    Aliens and extraterrestrials are some of my favorite subjects, so I think I'll be joining in the fun

    So which character from a popular videogame franchise are you going to put into this one?

    Interesting...
    the first thing that I thought of was a book called 'The arrival' by Shaun Tan. Might be worth a look for reference purposes. It doesn't have any extraterrestrial elements, but it's about an immigrant, and the illustrations are amazing.

    Anyways.. here's my quick little sketch. Was going for something a bit different. It will probably be scrapped though, because I just realised it looks rather cartoon-ish Ah well.

    WIP updated:

    Chow 109 :: Extraterrestrial Immigrant

    Some clarification to my take on the topic: 1000 years later, humans have long abandoned earth as an over-polluted, out-dated planet and moved on to newer, cleaner places, very much like how richer Americans abandoned cities for suburbs in many parts of America during the last however many years. Aliens moved in eager for opportunities, desperate to fit in. The earlier immigrants adopted the earth's ancient customs and traditions, and pretty much kept it alive in a fossilized state. Facilities aged up to several hundred years are merely patched and repaired instead of replaced. The new dwellers of earth wear a mix of earthling clothings across many eras, and took lower-end jobs such as gathering of solar energy, warehouse stockers, and basic maintenance mechanics for docks.

    hum must it be humanoid? or can it have strange anatomy but with discernible harms/legs/etc ?

    nice topic!

    edit : question 2 : must it be clothed, or wear some kind of equipment, or can it be ''naked''

    Nice topic!
    I started sketching a bit, I wanted to make a tall majestic being. Intelligent and peaceful. I thought humans are a bulky and rash, aiming missiles at almmost anything. This race complete humans with their peaceful nature and high intelligence.
    Fast sketch. I think I captured a bit of the feel for the race.
    Chow 109 :: Extraterrestrial Immigrant

    Update! I sketched a bit on the body trying to find something that still is a bit fitted for living on earth climate without being to human.

    Whats this with the traveling bags are they going on a holliday? I mean can you tell an immigrant from his bags?
    Immigrants are just like normal workers, regular folk.

    so you basicly just want us to create an alien? Since its pretty imposible to identify any kind of immigrant just from looks alone.

    My take on the subject is that immigrants tend to dress a certain way. They also tend to look a bit out of their element. Being an immigrant myself I should know

    Travel gears or stowaway environment might help too.
